Early perusal suggests it will be much of the same – TV news! Because let’s just say this (again), there is always and forever TV news stories. This week it’s the leaving of favorite TV stars in fan favorite TV shows, among other things in the television world, too. Let’s put on our research hat, and head down some Internet news trails. Here we go.

POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FIFTY-FOUR

ARE ROM-COMS MAKING A COMEBACK?

I have a work in progress discussion about this, and already posted up one about this topic too. But I have another one in the works as well because I have more to say. In the meantime, I’m curious about two upcoming rom-coms. One we talked about last week with Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher (Netflix original coming in February titled Your Place or Mine), the other is Shotgun Wedding. Featuring Jennifer Lopez, this isn’t going to be the nostalgia of The Wedding Planner. In fact, even without watching the trailer (which I hear is crazy), I sense this will go heavy on comedy rather than romance, and its R-rating (which I *just* saw) reinforces this.

Shotgun Wedding will drop January 27, 2023 on Amazon Prime.

ELEMENTARY, WATSON!

Craig Sweeny, an executive producer for Elementary (CBS’ modern and now cancelled Sherlock Holmes drama) will write Watson, for CBS. This show is said to focus on Dr. Watson a year after the death of his friend and business partner Sherlock Holmes. This show is said to be “a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to addressing the greatest mystery of all: illness, and the ways it disrupts our lives.” What do we think? I understand the “need” to eliminate Sherlock as a character and for a fresh spin to the iconic characters, but if I’m being honest, I’ll miss ANY presence Sherlock would have had in this. Still, given that reports say Elementary was a success for CBS, I’m not surprised they are trying to re-spin the legend a bit.

MORE MIDNIGHTS

Since October 21 will see the release of Midnights, this means the month will have Taylor Swift centric content, I’m keeping up that trend by sharing her album titles. She’s released four more titles since last week’s pop culture post. None of this is new to anyone since everyone (but me) seems to follow Swift on Instagram and/or Tiktok where she is playing the Midnights Mayhem with Me game. Still, we’re going there.

This week’s reveals are ‘Maroon,’ ‘Bejeweled’ and ‘Karma.’ Then, just yesterday she reveals the song ‘Lavender Haze,’ which she says is a phrase from the 50s that means being in an all encompassing love and “theoretically” means you’ll do anything to protect it. She ties it back to her own relationship of six years, and hopes fans love it. Additionally, she shares the track ‘Anti-Hero,’ and in an Instagram Reel she says, this goes deeper into her insecurities.

UPDATE! Since prepping this for publishing, she also posted an updated version of her album cover with the full track list revealed. The titles are:

  • Lavender Haze
  • Maroon
  • Anti-Hero
  • Snow on the Beach
  • You’re on your Own, Kid
  • Midnight Rain
  • Question…?
  • Vigilante Sh*t
  • Bejeweled
  • Labyrinth
  • Karm
  • Sweet Nothing
  • Mastermind

What do you think about the track five theory (‘All Too Well,’ ‘The Archer,’ ‘My Tears Ricochet’), based on the title? Will that be another personal song? Based on her social media, that honor will go more to track three or one this go round.

TWITTER

After months of back and forth on this story, and yes, we did talk about it, according to multiple reports, Elon Musk will acquire Twitter. The stories say he’s agreed to make the acquisition for his original offer. Do you think this will finally go through, and if so, what do you think this will mean for the platform?

LAST THINGS

The ‘One Chicago’ franchise said goodbye to two characters this week. SPOILERS! Chicago P.D. said goodbye to Jesse Lee Soffer’s Halstead, a character I get the impression has been with the show for some time now. Chicago Fire also says goodbye to a newer character that is Evan Hawkins. Will you miss these two? And if you’re a One Chicago fan, are any worth the time investment?

When they return from their seasonal hiatus, January to be exact, CBS will be giving fans QUITE the crossover. The OG show NCIS will have a 3-way crossover with its spin-offs, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i. The line reads they will work together to take down a mysterious hitman, and if not careful, the agents could become caught in the crosshairs!

Gilmore Girls celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year. Melissa McCarthy says co-star Lauren Graham is “amazing,” marveling over how she remembered all that dialogue. This, and more was part of an Instagram post McCarthy made acknowledging the anniversary.

After its “supersized” second season, set to drop in December, the 16-episode second season of Firefly Lane will be the Netflix show’s swan song. Starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, the show follow two women who have been friends for years, and their many ups and downs.

Adam Devine will reprise his role as Bumper on November 23rd in the Peacock streaming series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. The series will chronicle his life several years after we last saw him in the feature films after he moves to Berlin in hopes of reviving his career. Sarah Hyland will be one of the co-stars and new characters in the franchise.

    1. I think they did, yes. (Maybe just the two, NCIS and Hawaii?) I LOVED “NCIS.” It was the OG and I always thought it was so dang good. I still (mostly) do but haven’t caught up on its seasons recently, particularly for a couple of reasons. I watched the pilot of Hawaii and haven’t gone back. And I do love Sam and Callen on LA. We’ll see if I pick them up again with these new seasons. I did watch some of last years LA but haven’t finished it yet. If I’m going to keep up, I don’t like the idea of being this far behind because I forget what episode I leave things on. ;)
