POP CULTURE NEWS NINETY-EIGHT

Did anyone else hear watch the OG High School Musical movies? I cannot remember how old I was when they came out (and I’m too scared to look!), but I was probably older than the target audience when they did. Still I watched them. According to a catch up episode on the final season of Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical, they catch up with nearly all of the OG characters, even if they don’t all appear. Two who don’t are Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens who played high school sweethearts Troy and Gabriella. In this catchup, one of their former classmates, played by original cast member Corbin Bleu reveals the pair is in couple’s therapy. Do we think this means good things for the beloved characters (and they just need to reconnect) or bad things?

Former One Tree Hill (turned Hallmark) star Bethany Joy Lenz is writing a memoir where she’ll go in depth about the ten years she spent in an unnamed “cult.” Will this be something you pick up?

If you’re tired of price hikes, you’re about to have more if you’re someone who subscribes to all the streaming apps. Starting October 12, Hulu and Disney+ will be hiking their prices. According to one source, the streamers are upping prices a respective 20 and 27 percent. Hulu and Disney+ will stay at $9.99 for the with ads supported plans. The without ads “tier” prices will be up from $14.99 to $17.99 and $10.99 to $13.99, respectively. Will you keep paying?

Sandra Bullock’s “longtime partner,” Bryan Randall passed away from his “private” three year battle with ALS, and reports now say the two did exchange vows in 2017.

Though the entirety of the Internet knows by now, it still “has” to be mentioned. Nine years after its initial release, back in 2014, Taylor Swift will release her re-record (all in the effort of owning her work following her public battle with her former record label) of 1989. The album, which she announced during the last U.S. show in Los Angeles, will hit digital and literal shelves October 27th.

Not within our theme exactly, but still related to pop culture in that the movie is making waves, we saw Barbie since last we spoke in our weekly pop culture roundup. We had thoughts so we reviewed it and we have more thoughts, so another piece is coming, too!

Which stories did you read up on this week? Any of these seem familiar? Which ones should we have added? Do any make you curious to know more? Comment all of your thoughts below! Let’s talk.
