Hello, everyone! As is the tradition, we welcome Friday with another round up of entertainment news and highlights (sometimes I’m not sure we can call it this). This week there is more of the usual stories as well as, hopefully, some news that is actually more of a discussion topic! pop culture news edition sixty-four✨POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION SIXTY-FOUR: SEQUELS AND DOCUMENTARY CONTROVERSY✨ #HARRYANDMEGHAN #ANNEHATHAWAY #JULIEANDREWS #MOVIES #NETFLIX #TVSHOWS #JENNIFERLOPEZ Click To Tweet
We look at the anniversary of a lesser known but still liked comedy, the fallout from a popular documentary and whatever else we can dig up! Because that’s just what we do on Fridays. This week is likely just a kind of “round up” format rather than singling out any one or two stories. So let’s go.
POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION SIXTY FOUR
Despite an earlier season two renewal, Starz has reversed that decision and decided to cancel Dangerous Liaisons giving the “steamy” period drama show only one season. Similarly, HBO Max has cancelled Love Life and Minx as well.
There is more criticism of the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan. I cannot speak from firsthand knowledge since I’ve never been a fan of the royals and I rarely watch documentaries so there’s two things working against seeing this. However according to some articles when Meghan demonstrates a “mock” curtsey, critics are calling it “disrespectful.” Obviously, I know very little about he monarchy, but given the fact that she knew what she was marrying into, it does seem unkind at the least to mock the traditions and requirements your husband grew up with. Harry is also seen, in a trailer, as saying the family was willing to “lie” in order to protect his brother, but wouldn’t tell the truth to protect him and Meghan. It’s also reported as Netflix’s biggest documentary debut yet.
The remake of Quantum Leap has an early Christmas gift with a season two renewal at NBC.
This week marks the 20th anniversary of Jennifer Lopez’s fairy tale film Maid in Manhattan. To celebrate, we finally added the review to our archives and, we also posted a movie quiz, too! It’s kind of tradition at this point.
With all of the news swirling about a possible Princess Diaries 3, Julie Andrews has chimed in saying she doesn’t think her participation would be possible. What do you think? How could Andrews still make a memorable appearance?
The Rockford Files actor Stuart Margolin passed away this past week. The actor was 82.
ABC’s Beauty and the Beast: 20th Anniversary aired last night. Did you see it?
The So You Think You Can Dance alumni Stephen “tWitch” Boss has passed away from suicide. He was also married to Dancing with the Stars pro Allison Holker Boss, and was known for his fun, alongside his wife, Instagram Reels.
Returning to the CSI revival is OG cast member Eric Szmanda, playing his character Greg Sanders.
Fans of the PBS show Sanditon will like to know that the show will end with season three. The series will begin its farewell March of 2023.
Following up last week’s rumors and the rumor of a reboot movie for Superman, following his young years, Henry Cavill has confirmed he won’t return. Sounds like this is disappointing for him and honestly, I’d have like to see him return one last time as a kind of way for him to end his turn wearing the cape. Honestly DC seems kind of a mess just now.
Disney+ has renewed The Santa Clauses for a second series. Will you be watching?
Following rumors of an affair, GMA co-hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes remain “benched” at the show while an internal investigation takes place.
Your turn! Do you like this Jennifer Lopez film? Which one is your favorite from her? What do you think of the TV news in this roundup? Comment all the thoughts. Let’s meet in the comment section.
