The latest case team Leverage gets comes from an unexpected person. Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge) is an OG teammate, but he’s so busy with other work he’s passionate about, he doesn’t work with his team as often. Still, this case involves a journalist needing help investigating a corrupt European president, so he calls in girlfriend, Parker (Beth Riesgraf) and company to help.
Together with Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane) and their Hardison replacement, sister Breanna Casey (Aleyse Shannon), the gang needs one more to be complete. Sophie arranges things so that their lawyer friend and fellow redeemed good guy criminal Harry Wilson (Noah Wyle) returns. This begins a whole new set of bad guys to take down.

The show has a likable quality that few shows today know how to use or put into their storytelling. This likely thanks to these characters being in existence years ago; in other words, they aren’t 2020’s character creations. ‘Redemption’ does lean into some cultural issues its original didn’t, but this is to be expected given all of the “requirements” in cultural commentary today. leverage redemption season two
What’s most fun about this re-do is that the majority of the same cast returns. I love seeing Sophie, Eliot, Parker and gang re-team to be the bad guy who takes down the bader guy. It’s hilarious and best of all, a good time. This second season really leans into Sophie’s past and the ghosts that haunt her. Through this, in a vulnerable moment, there’s also an idea that Eliot is irredeemable which may break a fangirl heart or two. Given this is carryover from season one, it makes us wonder if another character will be a future season topic. This comes out through shadowy characters of her past and even family we don’t expect.
All in all, like season one, Leverage: Redemption is a good watch. The small group of characters are easy to champion even with their self-imposed “bad guy” label. Most of the cases have solid storytelling, and we even appreciate the one case that looks different when the gang tries to remain invisible. It’s a fun spin that takes a break from the normal mold. Plus there’s an adorable ‘date night’ case that is all kinds of cute. Now we just have to hope a third season is in the future of these characters.

Content: there’s some mild innuendo. One character dates the same sex, if that’s something that bothers you. Another recounts the former relationships she’s had. Some profanity and hand to hand combat, though nothing is ever “graphic.” The show is TV-14.
