IF I LIKE AUTHOR X, SHOULD I TRY THESE AUTHORS?

When it comes to creating things that pair up or recommending things to read if you like a certain author, Iโ€™m probably not the best at that game. Irrespective of this, I still like to at least try to make book suggestions based on authors and so this is where we find the situation today.

Like normal, Iโ€™m breaking the pattern of what the topic may call for. Instead of taking an author and recommending similar books (I did throw a couple recs in here), weโ€™re going to pick a few authors I have on my shelf and pair them with an author I have read. All with the hope that theyโ€™ll be similar to one of these authors I already know as a favorite. Plus I already put together a list, as unimpressive as it could be, of books to read if a reader likes Kasie West novels. Additionally to make this kind of list, I need an author Iโ€™ve read oodles of books by which Kasie fits nicely.

BOOK SUGGESTIONS BASED ON AUTHORS I ENJOY

RACHEL HAUCK likening to (?) KEIRA DOMINGUEZ

I read several of Rachelโ€™s royal novels and recently-ish found this novel from an author I havenโ€™t heard of before. I donโ€™t own it or anything, but am wondering if itโ€™d be a fun read especially having liked Rachelโ€™s royal romances. Rachel (have read): Goodreads โ€ข Keira (havenโ€™t read): Goodreads

HILLARY MANTON LODGE likening to KATHERINE REAY

These are two other others whom Iโ€™ve read books by. Both tell great stories and I think both have similar kind of styles in that they tend to go beyond just the normal of contemporary womenโ€™s fiction. Katherine (have read): Goodreads โ€ข Hillary (have read): Goodreads

BELL RENSHAW likening to COURTNEY WALSH

Iโ€™ve read both of these (Iโ€™m realizing I fibbed in my opening โ€“ I have read more of these pair ups than I thought). Both of these authors write a lot of small town romances and both write sweet stories. Bell (have read): Goodreads โ€ข Courtney (have read): Goodreads

THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS (HESTER BROWNE) likening to CHRISTINA LAUREN

Hereโ€™s the thing, these two authors are different. Yes, I guess this is a recommendation since Iโ€™ve read books by both of them. Lauren is general market and therefore doesnโ€™t shy away from any and all content same with Hester Browne. Still I think the latter is less about packing in content and more about storytelling. Christina Lauren (have read): Goodreads โ€ข โ€˜Princessโ€™ (have read): Goodreads

SARAH SUNDIN likening to (?) AMY HARMON OR KATE QUINN

I have a feeling both Harmon and Quinnโ€™s novels are a bit darker than Sarahโ€™s (plus unlike Sarah, both write fiction set in different time periods outside of WWII), but I see Kate Quinnโ€™s books on lists everywhere and Iโ€™ve heard multiple times that Amyโ€™s are great reads. Sarah Sundin (have read): Goodreads โ€ข Amy Harmon (havenโ€™t read): Goodreads โ€ข Kate Quinn (havenโ€™t read): Goodreads

BETHANY TURNER likening to (?) SOPHIE KINSELLA NOVELS

Kinsella is an author Iโ€™ve never read! Perhaps sheโ€™s one I should though. Her books seem like a good time and I love a fun read. Turner isnโ€™t general market like Kinsella is so thereโ€™s a different there, but she does bring some sass to her writing in The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck. Sophie Kinsella (havenโ€™t read): Goodreads โ€ข Bethany Turner (have read): Goodreads

BECKY WADE likening to (?) JESS MASTORAKOS

Iโ€™ve been wanting to read a novel by Jess for a while now and havenโ€™t. However just looking at her backlist makes me think that she could be an author I enjoy given how well I like novels by Becky Wade, Melissa Tagg and the like. Becky (have read): Goodreads โ€ข Jess (havenโ€™t read): Goodreads

What about you? What authors did you offer similar suggestions for? Would you read any of these? Have you? Which of these do you think work? Comment all of your thoughts below. Letโ€™s talk.

  1. Iโ€™ve read several authors on your list! I agree with Reay & Lodge, they both write wonderful stories.

Iโ€™ve read 1 WWII Kate Quinn novel, and comparing her to Sarah Sundin is fair, but the content (lots of language) of hers was definitely something to note.

I didnโ€™t do a TTT this week, but I like your spin! Iโ€™d pair up Laura Frantz and Lori Benton. Both have written some amazing American frontier stories.

    1. I TOTALLY would agree any secular author would be different than a Christian author in regards to content. Sometimes it annoys me because I feel like itโ€™s more of a โ€œjust because we canโ€ addition. But if the story is good enough I go for it. :) Glad to know I didnโ€™t do badly with Kate and Sarahโ€™s match up. Ooo! Laura and Lori seem a great pair! I read one of Lauraโ€™s a long time ago and really liked it. Thanks, as always, for visiting, Courtney!!

  2. Iโ€™ve never read Sarah Sundinโ€™s books so canโ€™t say whether or not theyโ€™re particularly similar to Kate Quinnโ€™s but I have read Kate Quinn and absolutely love her books, so highly recommend giving her a go anyway!
