OSCARS 2023 RED CARPET RECAP: THE BEST AND WORST LOOKS OF THE NIGHT

We all know that I’m less than impressed with the looks that stars wear to, what is supposed to be, their brightest nights to shine. However, it’s still fun to scroll the slide shows and see what they think works. This feature is the culmination of what all of the recent weeks of award shows leads up to. This brings us to the Oscar 2023 fashion aka the Red Carpet looks. What will we find? We’ll find out.

OSCAR 2023 FASHION: RED CARPET LOOKS

BOLD OR UNUSUAL

under this heading, we’re sharing some of the gowns and looks that are, for lack of a better word, unusual. This includes odd (or maybe unique?) shaping; different train styles and maybe even shades. Top Gun breakout star Monica Barbaro opts for bold in her Oscar look; Angela Bassett opts for bold (a very in color I read) and unique shaping; channeling her upcoming Ariel character, Halle Berry is pretty in aqua and tulle; Cate Blanchett has a more classic black silhouette hiding beneath blue draping; many praised Fan BingBing as a best dressed celebrity; Sabrina Dhowre Elba goes BOLD in green; Stephanie Hsu goes colorful and ballgown-esque in this number; Nicole Kidman misses the mark for me; finally Rooney Mara has a strange train situation on her gown (it isn’t showing here, but it’s there, trust me).

You can view these looks (plus more!) in Vogue’s slideshow roundup!

CLASSIC

some of these fall into the more classic looks of the night! Black always seems to be one of those colors designers use for more traditional or timeless looks. The stars sporting this include Elizabeth Banks; though this dress in white, Emily Blunt falls in the classic look; Sofia Carson I think does a nice twist on classic keeping things simple with white but using bolder shapes or silhouette and pretty emeralds; though also big and bold, Deepika Padukone looks ultimately pretty classic with her off the shoulder and gloves ensemble; while I loved her in the last film role I saw her in, Rainey Qualley’s look underwhelms; Michelle Yeoh’s gown has lots of unique elements and I’m still debating where she falls in these headings, but ultimately I think it’s classic with a twist (and I love that).

GLITTER

it wouldn’t be an awards show without some glitter! a few stars have this look down to a tee. this year those names include Ana de Armas, a 2023 best actress nominee who’s Louis Vuitton look does really underwhelm; Jessica Chastain; Salma Hayek; Kate Hudson; Lauren Ridloff; and Michelle Williams;

THE GUYS

normally I don’t include a fashion graphic for the dudes. however, I did this time just for fun and to include some of the current social media obsessed favorites.

RED CARPET LOVE

just for fun, I also pulled a few of the couples walking the red carpet because why not? which red carpet couple do you think is best dressed?
