POP CULTURE NEWS EIGHTY FOUR

The Met Gala was this past week, and while I thought most of the looks were ridiculous (even for the Met Gala), I see the Internet thinks I’m the crazy one. The consensus seems to be Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Dua Lipa were big wins, while Kylie Jenner is a split opinion. What do you think? Did you love any of the looks?

Molly Ringwald, the popular 80s star of The Breakfast Club, was in the running for Pretty Woman. The role famously went to Julia Roberts and was, in many ways, the star’s breakout role. Ringwald was reflecting on the film and role recently, and says she didn’t take the role because it made her feel “icky.”

Reality TV show, Dancing with the Stars will move back to ABC after its one season fall 2022 stint on Disney+. The show will air on Disney+ in addition to its return to ABC.

Prime also shared their second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty will drop in July.

The WGA writer’s strike officially has gone into effect. This means daytime talk shows (or most of them) and late night shows will be on hiatus during the period the strike lasts. Unlike TV shows, the scripts aren’t written as ahead of time since jokes are written to coincide with the news of the day. However, depending on how long this lasts, it could effect everything from the fall TV (like pilot pickups) premieres to TV movies, and features.

Emma Thompson, known for her role as Elinor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potter, and other roles, gave in interview in anticipation of her new comedy, What’s Love Got to Do with It? It the interview she defends romantic comedies and says that a good rom-com is actually quite hard to come by. I wrote about this in more length yesterday, but all I have to say is, Emma knows the rules.

DISCUSSION | DEFENDING ROMANTIC COMEDIES

Following weeks of rumors, it’s been officially announced that Yellowstone is ending later this year, November to be exact. This will then also usher in another spin off starring (potentially) Matthew McConaughey. The series will debut in December and will pick up the lives of this Dutton family where Yellowstone leaves off in “another epic tale.”

If you’re a fan of Fox’s 9-1-1, come this fall, it will now air on ABC. Oddly enough, 9-1-1: Lonestar will be renewed for Fox, and will remain on its original network.

Have you been missing Emma Watson? In an interview with Financial Times, she discusses her break from acting saying the reason for it is feeling “a bit caged.” She says she will return, but is waiting for that right role or thing to come along. The last we saw her was in Little Women, the 2019 adaptation that is praised as the most faithful to its Louisa May Alcott novel.

The R-rated (which is apparently bothering Gen-Z… but why I DO NOT KNOW) Will Gluck romance/comedy with Glen Powell (of Top Gun: Maverick fame) and Sydney Sweeney, Anyone but You will release December 15th. The story is rumored to be a (presumably loose) modern re-telling of Much Ado About Nothing. Will you be seeing it?

If you’re a fan of the popular Hulu show Only Murders in the Building. There’s news! It will drop on August 8th.

Rumor has it that Richard Madden could possibly be the next James Bond. What do you think? This social media rumor was ignited when co-stars Madden and Stanley Tucci and Richard Madden were, in an Instagram videos, enjoying a martini. This, fans will know, is the famous Bond drink. As they drank, Tucci asks “how’s yours,” and Madden replies, “delicious.” This is what ignited the firestorm of speculation. Honestly seems thin to me, but what do you think? You likely known Madden from Cinderella and most recently, Amazon Prime’s Citadel.

Did you see any of these stories from the week? Which ones are you following? Which ones annoy you? What stories aren’t here that you loved? Comment all the comments. Let’s discuss.
