Like so much around here, we’re heading to the Internet for inspiration of things to write about or lists to curate. This time the thing we find is the August 1 day that is Girl Friends Day. as a result, Our latest list features our fifteen favorite girl friend characters from film and tv. We have a few favorite characters fitting this, so let’s meet them and see who we love as best girl friends.

ABIGAIL and PARKER from REVENGE OF THE BRIDESMAIDS
This Freeform (formerly ABC Family) comedy is darling. It’s Joanna Garcia pre her Sweet Magnolias days and it’s about two friends who try to help their third girl friend when their former fremeny steals her boyfriend. Purchase on Amazon
ALEXA and MADISON from MY LIFE IS MURDER
These two are so likable together. On the surface, Alexa doesn’t have quite the same feelings for Madison as her tech genius does for her (technically) boss, but I also think this is just a front for Alexa. I think for all her bravado she does consider Madison a close friend. They’re fun and easy to “hang out” with and I enjoy their many adventures, plus it’s fun to watch Madison pull Alexa out of her comfortable place. Stream on Acorn TV
ANNA, MADDIE and PEG from FREAKY FRIDAY
The three besties from Freaky Friday are fun, aren’t they? Stream on Disney+
ANNE SHIRLEY and DIANA BERRY from ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
We do love Anne and Diana. They’re just the best of best friends.
BARBIE and GLORIA from BARBIE
This isn’t a strong friendship in terms of us seeing them bond in a deeper way, but I think what’s here is good and obviously, the idea is that their relationship strengthens into a friendship. Stream on Max favorite girl friend characters
CAROLINE and ANNIE from CAROLINE IN THE CITY
These two are fun, and while I don’t love all of Annie’s choices, I think she does change throughout the series. Stream, at publication, with Pluto

JANE and MAURA from RIZZOLI and ISLES

LIV and EMMA from BRIDE WARS
These two…! They make each other’s lives miserable (for a time), but they reconnect and repair their lifelong friendship in ways that’s oddly sweet.
MADDIE and HELEN from SWEET MAGNOLIAS
I love Maddie and with the exception to how she handles the whole love triangle, I also love Helen. I think she is the one with wisdom (up until her own life mistakes) and I love how much Maddie cares. Stream with Netflix
MAYA and JOAN from SECOND ACT
These two are hilarious, mainly it’s Leah Remeni’s Joan, but I like them as besties. They have a rocky road, but eventually make up and it’s nice to see their friendship last.
MIA and LILLY from PRINCESS DIARIES
These two are so fun. I love them so much together. Stream with Disney+
PARKER and SOPHIE from LEVERAGE
These two are quite fun together. It takes some time to develop their friendship, but I think once Parker comes to trust Sophie, it’s full trust. Similarly, where Sophie starts as a kind of mentor, I think she comes to trust Parker as a friend. Stream, at publication, on Prime
PENELOPE and ANNIE from PENELOPE
I don’t think these two are dynamic, but I do like them. I think Annie shows Penelope kindness she really needs prior to Annie discovering who she is, and though she’s a free spirit and perhaps doesn’t form bonds easily, I think Annie always means well. THE SISTERHOOD GIRLS from SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS
It’s no secret that these women go through it. Ups and downs, but I admire that their friendship, ultimately, works through these and lasts. Purchase on places like Apple or Amazon
THE WOMEN from HOT IN CLEVELAND
These ladies are hilarious and good fun. It centers on three best friends who move to Cleveland (from LA if I’m not mistaken) and befriend Betty White’s character. Stream, at publication, on Paramount or Pluto favorite girl friend characters
