EIGHT FATHER’S DAY TV EPISODES TO DISCOVER
If we thought finding Mother’s Day themes in TV shows for our list feature for mom’s was tough, finding Father’s Day TV episodes is downright impossible. Most of this is probably down to the fact that many TV shows have wrapped their years by the end of April or early May and don’t start again until September. However, sometimes I wonder too if it’s partially because dad’s or men in general aren’t well liked in pop culture.

EIGHT FATHER’S DAY TV EPISODES TO DISCOVER. #FathersDay #TVEpisodes #TheFlash #TheBradyBunch #TVShows #ClassicTV #Dad #BestDad #Father #JoeWest Share on XDespite the difficulties, we did find a few TV episodes that plotlines say center on dad’s or honor father’s in a Father’s day adjacent kind of way. This is what leads us to our list on this Father’s Day. Before we press on with the selections we did manage to find, mostly from classic TV shows, I have to give my dad a shout-out…
Thank you for being who you are and for showing up each day to work hard, support your family and through that, showing the value in working hard and doing a good job. I’m grateful for this, the unknowing values you instilled and continue to, and so much more and appreciate all that you do. Happy father’s day, Dad. Love ya.
Let’s take a deep dive into Internet searching and find out which TV episodes give nods to cool dads.
FATHER’S DAY TV EPISODES
BABY DADDY, ‘FROM HERE TO PATERNITY’
EPISODE: Season Three, Episode 16
This show I’m pretty sure rubs a lot of people the wrong way. It was an ABC family show that I binged for the first-time last year (I think) and did find pretty cute. It’s a kind of Three Men and a Baby (a popular 80s comedy)concept that is very father-centric since the main character has to raise the daughter he didn’t know he had. In this episode, we follow the titular Ben as he helps his best friend search for her own father.
THE BRADY BUNCH, ‘FATHER OF THE YEAR’
EPISODE: Season One, Episode 14
Marcia decides Mike deserves to win the local Father of the Year contest, and despite being the only kid who thinks so, she sets out to write (in excess!) about why.
DENNIS THE MENACE, ‘FATHER’S DAY FOR MR. WILSON’
EPISODE: Season Two, Episode 37
Despite all the fun he has with his own father on Father’s Day, Dennis begins to worry about Mr. Wilson and so he tries to give him a nice day, too. But of course, the usual chaos rules. This is perhaps the only episode I found that is actually about Father’s Day and it aired June 17 1961.
FAMILY MATTERS, ‘FATHER TIME’
EPISODE: Season Eight, Episode 16
I started watching this in order a few months ago (prior to that I’d seen episodes here and there) and have fallen away from watching it again. But what I saw was so cute and fun. This latter season episode (which I haven’t seen during my recent watch yet) follows bonding between Carl and Steve Urkel, who seriously has to be one of the most likable characters, past or present, on TV.
FATHER KNOWS BEST, ‘FATHER OF THE YEAR’
EPISODE: Season One, Episode 19
Jim Anderson’s kids try to find all the right words to nominate him for Father of the Year in a contest; they know he deserves it but coming up with just the right words is what trips them up!
THE FLASH, ‘FASTEST MAN ALIVE’
EPISODE: Season One, Episode 2
This one cropped up during my searching for good fits, and says it’s all about Joe West, the man who took in and loves Barry as his own, coming to terms with his son’s newfound superpowers. Plus, intercut within this, is reflections from Barry’s dad too. Or so Internet searches tell me. I would have seen this episode (all previous to my quitting superheroes), but don’t ask me to recall details! I will say I do remember liking Joe and Barry’s relationship, so I imagine this episode is good.
FULLER HOUSE, ‘HERE COMES THE SUN’
EPISODE: Season Three, Episode 18
I’m not entirely sure how this episode relates to dad’s specifically other than it’s a spin off from Full House which revolves around a single dad raising his three girls with his best friend and brother. This episode’s synopsis reads that it foreshadows “big changes” for the girls, D.J. and Stephanie, but did appear in my Father’s Day tv show research, so… we’re hopeful it fits. Stream exclusively with a Netflix subscription
JANE THE VIRGIN, ‘CHAPTER 12’
EPISODE: Season One, Episode 12
According to my cursory research, this is a great Father’s Day themed episode about a sweet bonding moment between Jane and the father she never knew.
Ok, let’s talk. Which of these have you seen? Do you think they all fit? Are some misses? Comment all of your thoughts below! Let’s talk all the Father’s Day TV episodes and tell me, which episodes should have been on this list.
