Like always, there’s TV news and also sad news, plus we learn about a long-standing host calling it quits! Let’s jump into these stories.

POP CULTURE NEWS NINETY

After over four decades as the face (one of them) of the popular game show, Pat Sajak is calling it quits once Wheel of Fortune‘s fall 2023 season wraps. Alongside Vanna White, the host has been a fixture on the game show for many years. The talk is possibly putting Ryan Seacrest in his place or could Vanna become the new host?

Following  months of speculation, confirmation is here. Paramount+ will debut another NCIS spin-off. This time, it will be an international version NCIS: Sydney. The show self describes as something that “will follow the eclectic team of U.S. NCIS Agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who are grafted into a multi-national taskforce to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.” The cast is also in the news and will feature “Olivia Swann (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow ) [as] NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey and Spartacus: War of the Damned’s Todd Lasance as Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey.” Additional to the cast is “Sean Sagar as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson; Tuuli Narkle as AFP Liaison Officer, Constable Evie Cooper; Mavournee Hazel as AFP Forensic Scientist, Bluebird ‘Blue’ Gleeson and William McInnes as AFP Forensic Pathologist, Dr Roy Penrose.” Will you watch?

Composer Alan Menken, who did work on The Little Mermaid and also films like Enchanted, says that Disney’s live-action remake of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is in “limbo.” Why? Well, he says it’s because there’s very “real” issues in the story and it has to be “an agreement about how we deal with those issues.” What do you think? Will be see this re-made in the near future? And do you have issue with the issues this Victor Hugo story tackles?

Remembrances and tributes were everywhere for Treat Williams who passed away early this week. The actor was well known for his roles as a wise TV dad in shows like Everwood and later Chesapeake Shores. He also starred in many TV guest spots or recurring roles, including CBS’ Blue Bloods. His passing has been mourned by co-stars like Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp, Tom Selleck, Taylor Kinney, Meghan Ory and Jessica Sipos, and many others.

If you watched and liked Freevee’s fun tropical dramady Almost Paradise in a further expansion of their partnership with Dean Devlin and Christian Kane (both of Leverage fame), you may ben happy to know it will return. Season two will drop on July 21 plus has a trailer, too. This comes three years after the spring 2020 debut of its first season. So question is, will you watch or are you over it?

Also in renewal news, Netflix will bring back XO, Kitty for a second season. What were your thoughts on this show?

Since I think we did mention it a while back, I thought we’d follow up with the news that ABC won’t move forward with a whole slew of 2023 pilots. These include Public Defenders and Keeping it Together, both comedies; plus the dramas The Hurt Unit and Judgement.

If you watch Netflix’s small town charmer Sweet Magnolias, one of its kids, Maddie Townsend will look a little different in its upcoming third season. Ella Grace Helton will play her. Previously Bianca Berry Tarantino plays the role, but due to conflicts will bow out.

Which of these stories did you read up on this week? Were you sad to hear about Williams? What do you think about Sweet Magnolia’s re-cast? Will you watch NCIS? Comment everything you have to say below. Let’s talk.
