I’d be fibbing if I said that Sleepless in Seattle is a favorite film. It’s not. I suspect I know why I don’t love it, and there is two primary reasons, one of which being the couple doesn’t spend much time together. That is always kind of a dealbreaker for me. I like the romanticism of falling in love with letters or phone calls, but I also like to see the couple get some face time too. The plot follows a woman who forms a connection with a widower. After his young son tries to find his father a new partner, his dad, Sam, ends up pouring out his heart on national radio.
Admittedly, the plot is sweet, but I just don’t have the fondest memories.
Sadly I didn’t get a re-watch in before publishing this and while ordinarily I would have tried to get up early to watch it one day this week, I don’t have time for that silliness this week. So we’re going off memory and Internet searches and hoping all of this is somewhat coherent.
The film features the cast of Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Bill Pullman, Rita Wilson and Victor Garber. The film was released on June 25 1993 and has become a favorite among fans in the 30 years since.
