‘BUTLERS IN LOVE’: CONTEMPORARY FILM INSPIRED BY POPULAR PERIOD DRAMA

One of the 2022 Hallmark originals, Butlers in Love is a fun flick with a plot that is a different story concept than most on the network.

Butlers in Love (2022) Hallmark TV Film Review

Since childhood, Emma Conroy (Stacey Farber) has wanted one thing; to become a butler. Her dream doesn’t hamper even into adulthood. While she waits for her acceptance into a prestigious butler academy, she works at a restaurant, and continues to self train herself in all the skills the best butler needs.

When finally, her acceptance goes through, Emma finds more challenges than she expects but her passion and determination don’t wane.

As a one-part story concept, Butlers in Love is cute and fun. The idea that there are people going to school to train to be a butler is different than most which gives this one more advantage. Without saying so, the film takes obvious cues from Downton Abbey as its inspiration for this dream of Emma’s. Anyone who loves the popular ITV series will appreciate the nods to the show and can enjoy this for its plot, too. I will say, despite the title, any love story feels even more secondary than most of its peers.

I haven’t seen most of this cast in much. But Farber plays the role with a kind of eager charm though I think her attitude and making her work her whole world is wrong. The rest of the cast seem unfamiliar as well. They’re all good even in the conflict; and I kind of like that not everything is shown to have a perfect bow tying up the conflict. Maxwell Caulfield and Corey Cott co-star, too.

Heavy on the dream of a profession, Butlers in Love still has some romance and cute moments between the couple. What may annoy some is the end which is a little open ended and vague, but then it shows us a little look into the life of our characters.
