THE BOOKS THAT COULD BE ATMOSPHERIC READING
Getting fully immersed into the autumn season by looking at atmospheric books and reading. Sometimes when I’m reading something, I have thought that the novel fits this description aptly but asking me to remember which ones I’ve felt this way about, well, we all know that’s a challenge. As we are fully stepping into the darker hues of autumn, this seems like as good a time as any to discuss this.

📗THE BOOKS THAT COULD BE ATMOSPHERIC READING📗 Talking some titles on my shelf that are "atmospheric" reads. Or possibly so. #TopTen #TopTenList #TopTenTuesday #BookList #Books #Readers #Reader #Reading #Read #ReadGoodBooks #GoodBooks Share on XThe books I’m going to feature are most likely books I haven’t read but they seem as though some element of them could fit the atmospheric genre. At least we’re going to hope this is the case. Let’s start sharing and see where things evolve or go from here.
ATMOSPHERIC BOOKS and READING
GLAMOROUS ILLUSIONS, LISA T. BERGREN
Not a dark read (at least that I remember), but I do recall this one being vivid in its setting and storytelling. Goodreads
CHARITY BISHOP novels
Charity’s novels, like the last author on our list, seem perfect for our list. I used to write for Charity (which is where it all began… and also, I still cringe thinking about the edits she had to do), and through the years, heard a lot about her novels. I bought six or so of them and now need to read them! I hear great things about her novels, and know she’s a great writer, so question is, what am I waiting for? Goodreads
THE LOST CASTLE, KRISTY CAMBRON
I haven’t read any of Kristy’s ‘castle’ novels and I don’t think they’re “dark” reading, but they nonetheless seem like they could be atmospheric, right? Goodreads
FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, THOMAS HARDY
I haven’t read this one but did see the Carey Mulligan (and a 90s one too) adaptation. I also – gasp – do own a copy of the book and it seems another fitting title. Goodreads
GILT HOLLOW, LORIE LANGDON
This one really did impress me at the time I read it. Goodreads
OLIVIA TWIST, LORIE LANGDON
Read this one (again) years ago. It was a twist on the Dickens tale. Goodreads
THE MEMORY THIEF, LAUREN MANSEY
I always wanted to read this one because I think it sounds good. Alas I didn’t so this is just a guess. It seems as though it’d fit though, right? Goodreads
LADY JAYNE DISAPPEARS, JOANNA DAVIDSON POLITANO
99.9% sure I read this one, but I remember little about it apart from the cover art which would suggest a read fitting our subject. Goodreads
A TOUCH OF GOLD, ANNIE SULLIVAN
I know nothing about this one, but I have it as an arc, and just reading its synopsis makes me think it could fit. Goodreads
JAIME JO WRIGHT novels
Jaime’s novels just seem so ideal for this topic. Her titles and covers also seem to fit nicely. Goodreads

Linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl October 24: Atmospheric Books (The Novelry explains this concept as: “A novel feels atmospheric when the setting and the narrative are deeply involved with one another; when characters and plot are physically embedded in their surroundings, and a near-tangible mood lifts from the pages and wraps itself around the reader.” Study.com explains that, “The atmosphere is how a writer constructs their piece to convey feelings, emotions, and mood to the reader. The atmosphere in literature might be tense, fast-paced, mysterious, spooky, whimsical, or joyful and can be found in poetry, stories, novels, and series.”)
These all seem very atmospheric for sure!
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
I just keep picking books and hoping (since I haven’t read many of them) that they sort of fit whatever the week’s topic is. ;)
They sound interesting.
Have a great week!

Hoping they are. ;)
I am reading FAR FROM THE MADDENING CROWD now. I enjoy it!
I’m so glad! It seems like it’d have a certain atmosphere to the story so I hope it’s a decent pick for this week. :)
I haven’t read any of these either. They certainly look like they would be atmospheric reads.
Here’s hoping!! :)
Great list, Rissi! I didn’t have the brain capacity for this one this week so I went a different direction. Have a great week!
Sometimes a different direction is fun. :)
I haven’t read any of these yet but I do feel like the covers already give off very atmospheric vibes!
For sure! Which is probably what I based most of this list off. ;)
Spooky books tend to lend themselves to being atmospheric, but that doesn’t mean they have to be spooky. If the setting seems to be a character in the book, that can lead to the atmosphere.

Spooky books do indeed tend to be atmospheric. Or that’s what I found! But I feel like what I call spooky and what actually is considered so, by most readers standard, is very different. ;)
I haven’t read any of these, but they certainly SEEM atmospheric from the covers and plot summaries. I need to take a closer look at several of these!
Happy TTT!

I agree, Susan… and I hope you found one or two that sounded interesting. :)
I haven’t even heard of most of these, but the covers even look atmospheric. Great list this week, and I hope you get to read more of these soon!
Thanks, Leah! I hope so as well. :)
