FIFTEEN FUNNY MOVIES TO END THANKSGIVING WITH

When it comes to the holidays, there are definitely favorites. This we know by how people decorate or the marketing by popular stores. The two fall holidays people love most seem to be Halloween and Christmas leaving Thanksgiving the forgotten one. Spooky and festive movies also seem to be in no short supply, but what about thanksgiving movies? Are there any? And if so, what are they? We’re going to look into that today, and see what we come up with. fifteen thanksgiving movies to watch

The movies we’re finding aren’t strictly a Thanksgiving story in the way most Christmas movies are, but they still have some element of this stuck-in-the-middle holiday, and they can be quite funny, too! Let’s meet some of the options.

FIFTEEN THANKSGIVING MOVIES TO WATCH

ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES

Is there anything more Thanksgiving watch appropriate than a school play scene that doesn’t go well?

AN OLD-FASHIONED THANKSGIVING

One of the “old days” Hallmark movies, this one is a period drama based on a story by Louisa May Alcott and feels very Little Women-esque while still being a sweet story about family. Though it isn’t funny in the way some of these are. fifteen thanksgiving movies to watch

BEETHOVEN

It’s been years since I watched this, but it used to be something I’d watch every now and then. An ideal watch for family and after you’ve consumed that Thanksgiving meal.

THE BLIND SIDE

Though it goes well beyond Thanksgiving, there is a scene in this film with Thanksgiving. Lilly Collins, Tim McGraw, and Sandra Bullock stars in this drama inspired by a true story.

FREE BIRDS

If you have kids, this one could be fun. It follows two turkeys from the “opposite side of the tracks” who set out to ensure that turkeys are no longer part of the traditional holiday dinner. Owen Wilson and Amy Poehler are two of the talents lending their voices to the animated flick.

HOME FOR THE HOLDAYS

Featuring an ensemble cast (including a young Robert Downey Jr. pre Tony Stark days), this one follows a single mother and is, as the title suggests, set during the holiday season.

INSTANT FAMILY

Follows a couple who decide to take in foster kids. The film is more about the bonding and comic scenes that ensue from this, but there is also a disastrous holiday meal.

LITTLE FOCKERS

The third film in the Robert De Niro franchise, these movies are the kind of comedies that for me, are unforgettable. They’re fine for a laugh, but they aren’t favorites or re-watches for me. This one has a lot of crude humor and also a Thanksgiving dinner that goes, as usual, wrong. fifteen thanksgiving movies to watch

LOVE AT THE THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE

Another “olden days” Hallmark movie. Autumn Reeser stars in this one as a woman quite fond of old-fashioned things. Of course, there’s the parade, and a guy who may be more than her heroine assumes.

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET

Extending into Christmas, this one begins with the Thanksgiving Day parade, features the meal and then Santa Claus, too. It’s a charming movie and even if you prefer the older version with Maureen O’Hara, the 90s remake still has that sense of charm.

PIECES OF APRIL

Katie Holmes stars in this dramady (that I hear is actually kind of sad!) about a woman living in a small apartment who rallies her family together.

THE PRINCE AND ME

Unlike some of the titles on this list, this one isn’t exclusive to Thanksgiving, but it does show the holiday and is a story set, primarily, during the autumn season.

SON-IN-LAW

A young Carla Gugino stars in this film about a college student who returns home on Thanksgiving break, bringing with her a dude her family finds more than just a little unusual. fifteen thanksgiving movies to watch

TURKEY HOLLOW

Outside of its title, I’m not sure how Thanksgiving-esque this one is. While visiting an aunt, two bored kids uncover a curious world of… monsters?

WHAT’S COOKING?

Never saw this one, but I did see a user describe it as “cheesy” (and we love that after a busy day, right?). It’s about four families in LA who gather for Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not sure if it’s four separate families or families who share a connection. Either way, it may be a fun watch.

    1. That sounds like a really good movie! I haven’t ever seen it, but did seem some comments (and guessed it was sad based on the synopsis) that there’s some sadness too. I do tend to like the movies I see Katie Holmes in, so I should watch it sometime. :)

      1. It’s the same director that did Dan in Real Life, and he focuses on getting the right music for his films. I loved the music in both! There are funny moments in Pieces of April too, it’s not all sad. I think it’s pretty well balanced and a good one to watch, especially at Thanksgiving time!

        1. I love a well balanced movie. And I also really enjoy Dan in Real Life. Not a “normal” movie I watch on repeat, but I’ve seen that one several times. It’s got a good cast and some genuinely funny moments. :)
