‘THE SANTA SUMMIT’: BEST FRIENDS DASH AROUND IN SEA OF SANTAS

Full of cheer and adventuring-ing, this is one of 2023’s brightest.

The Santa Summit (2023) Hallmark Film Review

Working with her two best friends as teachers is a favorite part of the day for Jordin (Hunter King). Just as the seasonal break begins, Jordin realizes that they don’t hang out like they used to. They’ve lost the fun of social outings in the midst of their busy lives. Convincing them to join her for a night out attending the annual Santa Summit event, Jordin finds that one friend (Amy Groening) is willing to go to see her crush. If there’s one this this script does its reuse the familiar chance encounter concept. Regardless, it’s also one of the brightest bulbs on the string of the season. What makes it unique is the adventure and shift through festive events that make up the Santa Summit. From sledding to dancing, the events keep rolling, but they roll through these events in ways that aren’t traditional. Much as I enjoy this about the script and enjoy the unique qualities, I’m also conflicted.

I like the emphasis on friendship and the bonds the women have. Where I think the script errs is in some of its constant remarks about friendship being all the matters or remarks about sensitivity. It all comes off as a little culturally “preachy” and unnecessary in order to be a good story. In the end, I like the story more than the sum of my disagreements with it.

The cast is fabulous and fun, and each time I see her, I enjoy Hunter King since she became a Hallmark star. I also like that this film is joyful in a way that seems effortless, which we own to the cast I suspect. The romances, though very minor, are all darling, too. If you want something that’s cheerful, but unique, The Santa Summit is entertaining.

Content: there’s really nothing to mention in this one. There’s a kiss and conversation about an ex being with someone new. The film is TV-G.
