‘CHRISTMAS ISLAND’: THE HALLMARK WITH POPULAR STAR ANDREW WALKER
Another in the lineup of Hallmark’s 2023 Christmas movies, Andrew Walker stars in Christmas Island.
Christmas Island (2023) Hallmark TV Film Review
Making her dream job a priority is all Kate Gabriel (Rachel Skarsten) wants. She doesn’t have connections and isn’t planning on having any, but applying to become a pilot for private flights is something she sees in her future. When she earns a test flight piloting the wealthy Sharpe family from LA to Switzerland for Christmas, Kate’s dreams seem out of reach when their flight is diverted to Nova Scotia for bad weather.
While there, the family and Kate meet Oliver Macleod (Walker), the studious air traffic controller who helped divert them. Oliver also happens to love Christmas, and becomes their kind of guide through Christmas Island as they all try to salvage the Christmas they may not have.

Using the “stranded” trope, Christmas Island isn’t so unique through its story, so much as likely pulling viewers in through its star Andrew Walker. Known for multiple Hallmark movies, including the surprise (to no one) hit Three Wise Men and a Baby from 2022, Walker is a fixture on the network bringing to life multiple favorite characters. Though without quite as many Hallmark credits to her name, Rachel too appeared in last years The Royal Nanny. I didn’t love these two together, but this doesn’t detract from the film.
Familiar concepts and sequences, plus seasonally appropriate festivities, this is another sure to charm its target audience. I do think some of the things in the script are to the detriment of future Christmas movies, but there’s good too. The renewed ties and the new friendships that form is what make this a heartwarming film to enjoy. The décor is way overdone and just “too much” all around. The film is still something lovely, and has some more believable snowfall scenes. The ending is abrupt but still keeps to the traditions of being happy.

Content: Christmas Island is TV-G, and contains nothing more “bothersome” than kissing.
