FIFTEEN (PLUS ONE) CHRISTMAS NOVELS YOU MAY ENJOY

by

We may have a little too many Christmas-y themes going on around here. Between Christmas lists, and reviews, gift guides and book celebrations, perhaps, despite our scrooge qualities that Christmas starts too soon, this list is a moot point. But since we are in December and in my world that means it’s perfectly appropriate to bring on all the Christmas things, we’re going to celebrate fifteen Christmas novels you may enjoy (aka fifteen Christmas novels from my bookshelf). Also, is it likely I’ve already created a list like this (from a prior year) with essentially these same novels? Very possibly. We’re still diving in regardless.

Primarily what you’ll find is a list of seasonal novels I have yet to read. A couple of these I have, but mostly, these are titles I still want to read and haven’t. The goal is there though. So you’ll have to tell me, which of these do I need to prioritize? Let’s meet the candidates first.

CHRISTMAS NOVELS YOU MAY ENJOY (aka the seasonal titles on my shelf)

SO, THIS IS CHRISTMAS, TRACY ANDREEN

This book sounds super cute! I love the cover (just fun and colorful) and the plot follows a girl who decides to go home for Christmas where she finds one of her classmates also in her hometown; a classmate she believes is a Brit who doesn’t like her. Goodreads

WHAT LIGHT, JAY ASHER

I did read this one several years ago. It was quite sweet as I remember. Plus the bokeh effect that looks like lights and the overall winter-y look makes this another ideal pick. Goodreads

A SEASON FOR SECOND CHANCES, JENNY BAYLISS

I’m not entirely sure why I picked this one up. I did like Bayliss’ debut but I don’t think it’s one that lingered. Still, I do like to give authors more than one chance. Goodreads

THE CHRISTMAS WAGER, HOLLY CASSIDY

Two people compete in some local seasonal “games” where the winner will walk away with a local and charming shop; one is looking to earn a promotion, and the other, a grandchild of the owner, isn’t so ready to give up the business. Goodreads

BLAME IT ON THE MISTLETOE, BETH GARROD

Described as “Tweet Cute meets The Holiday,” this rom-com looks like a really fun time (an influencer swaps places with a normal girl), so who am I to complain? Goodreads

ONE SMALL SECRET, ESTHER HATCH

Just ordered this one so technically it’s not on my shelf yet, but it will make its way there. It’s part of the “Gift Wrapped Romance” series of five novels all written by different authors. It seems like it could be a sweet read about a woman who “bested” her charming next-door neighbor their whole lives. But they aren’t kids anymore now. All this in a story that’s supposed to be inspired by classic films. Goodreads

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, MAGGIE KNOX

Reality TV stars are forced to pair up on their musical competition when after one random duet together, fans start to love them together forcing them to pretend they like each other when in reality they cannot stand to be around each other. Goodreads

THE HOLIDAY SWAP, MAGGIE KNOX

Sisters decide to swap lives over the Christmas season, both feeling strung out with some of the challenge of life. Reminds me of The Holiday one of THE best more “recent” rom-coms. Goodreads

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, WENDY LOGGIA

This one follows a girl who loves Christmas, but she doesn’t have a special someone to kiss beneath the mistletoe. Of course this becomes her one wish, and a series of events lead her to someone who she’s sure isn’t the one… or is he? Goodreads

THE HOLIDAY SWITCH, TIF MARCELO

Ready for winter break, the only thing Lila doesn’t expect while working is the cute nephew of her boss! Goodreads

NEW YEAR’S KISS, LEE MATTHEWS

I did read this one and it’s cute. I also like that it centers more on New Year, which I think can be a fun background for a story. Goodreads

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, KARA MCDOWELL

A girl with anxiety cannot decide where to spend her Christmas break, and so in a kind of Sliding Doors holiday, she is able to live both realities. Goodreads

ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND CHRISTMAS, SARAH MONZON

All about some competition between co-workers at Christmas. Goodreads

MISTLETOE AND MR. RIGHT, SARAH MORGENTHALER

I finally read The Tourist Attraction which was fun, but not dynamic for me, so question now is, do I read this (which I do own)? Goodreads

THE MISTLETOE BLUFF, EMILY SCHNEIDER

I bought book one in this series earlier this year after seeing it everywhere on Instagram. So naturally, even though I haven’t read it, I went and bought this seasonal title. Goodreads

FAKING CHRISTMAS, KERRY WINFREY

This one has a very Christmas in Connecticut theme; a woman’s boss comes to mistakenly believe that she owns a farm that her sister actually owns. Goodreads

Have you read any of these? Would you? Which seasonal/Christmas novels do you enjoy reading? Is there one you adore enough to read year after year? Comment all of your thoughts below! Let’s talk about it all.

    1. It was a good read. I read it so many years ago I don’t remember specifics, but do remember liking it at the time. :) Glad you stopped by, Anne. Thanks.

  1. So many Christmas books, so little time! I haven’t read any of these, though a few have caught my attention like Sarah Monzon’s and Kerry Winfrey’s. I did like 1 of Kerry’s I read a while ago, so there’s that to encourage you ;)

I always have good intentions with Christmas books, and often I will read them into January, but this year is shaping up to be a busy season outside of my reading time, so I’m not sure how many I will get to. I really want to read Toni Shiloh’s You Make It Feel Like Christmas and another novella or two.

    1. I haven’t read anything by Kerry, but her book does sound fab. And Sarah’s, too. I did start The Christmas Wager, so we’ll *see* if I actually finish it. ;)

Same here. I always have the best of intentions to read some fun and festive reads this time of year. Yet somehow it never pans out well. At least those novellas are easy reads… and hope you enjoy Toni’s! I see so many positive reviews for her stories. :)

  2. I have not read any of these, and I felt like I had made a similar list to what I did today too, but couldn’t find it…so maybe we just always think the topic is familiar? I do plan to read All’s Fair in Love and Christmas, I am just waiting on my copy to arrive. This is a great topic, I could have done one too…I did gather all my Christmas books into one spot, so maybe I will actually read some of them this year ;)

    1. Sarah’s book does sound so lovely. If you read some Christmas novels, I hope you enjoy them all, Cindy. I always have the best of intentions, but somehow, despite it supposed to be the “best” time of year, adult me finds Christmas a little busy. ;)

        1. That’s a place I’m in right now – trying to manage time a bit better. Right now I’m working more on lessening time working here and social media, and eventually I’m going to work in reading more again. It’s one of those “one thing at a time” situations for me. ;) I’m glad you’ve been reading more.

          1. Ah! I see. Either way, it’s still fun to enjoy some good reading (even if it is more of one genre). Hope you discover that reading time again in 2024!! :)

  3. I’m not really a romance person which rules out most Christmassy novels for me as I just don’t love romance to be the main plot point of my books which is a shame because I do love Christmas! I did have What Light a few years back but I think I unhauled it at one point because I’d had it for a while and still not read it and kind of lost interest. It’s a book where I think I liked the cover more than the sound of the story!

    1. Totally understand this, Jo! I have books on my shelf for SOO long sometimes too. Eventually I do post them up on eBay or donate them because I figure if I have left them on my shelf for that long then I’m really not that interested. Also relate about liking a cover more than I would a story. It’s gotten my into “auto buy” trouble over the years, which is something I’ve improved on somewhat. ;)

  4. I loved One Small Secret by Esther Hatch, and plan to read All’s Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon. I’ll be checking out the others, thanks for the recommendations!

    1. A mystery set during Christmas can be fun too. I’ve seen a couple Christmas movies that are mysteries, though most are still on the “cute” end. Thanks for visiting!

    1. If you find some to read, Susan, I do so hope you enjoy. :) It’s fun to re-read or re-watch our favorite Christmas stories this time of year though. Thanks for visiting!!
