‘THE WEDDING COTTAGE’: FAMILIAR FACES LEAD HALLMARK ROMANCE

With its familiar faces in both leading roles, The Wedding Cottage is likely a favorite for many, but one we didn’t have in our archives.

The Wedding Cottage (2023) Hallmark TV Film Review

Uninspired and wondering what’s next, an artist finds possible inspiration when a woman tries to inspire him to let her renovate a cottage. The plan is to give a couple the most perfect wedding. As author and creator of Tying the Knot, this means that Vanessa Doyle (Erin Krakow) needs to pull off the impossible and revamp the location for their wedding. An event that needs to come together in one month.

Finding owner Evan Stanford (Brendan Penny) on the property seems ideal but his less than welcome attitude means she’ll have to work hard to convince him his help will create this couple’s dream come true.

A concept that isn’t new, The Wedding Cottage is likely still something viewers of the Hallmark network like. It’s a story about overcoming the impossible and creating something good. It’s also about rediscovering creativity and learning new things about people, and ourselves, too. The addition of a couple where one half is in the military is also surprisingly sweet, and one that will likely tug on heartstrings because of its required sacrifices. Also familiar is the plucky heroine who wears down a grumpy hero with her determination. PS; the leaf blower scene is quite cute, this I have to admit.

Like so many films I see from the TV movie world, this is just a middling romance that is cute, yes, but ultimately, forgettable, albeit with some solid moments between the stars. There’s history incorporated into the story and the familiar cast, at least its two lead stars will likely charm viewers. There are still the usual happy coincidences that feed the story as does the miscommunication trope, and of course, the normal standard of a TV romance, which is a happy end.

Content: The Wedding Cottage is the usual TV-G rating that doesn’t abuse its normal “safe” rating.
