THE POST WHEREIN WE RANK THE HALLMARK VALENTINE’S DAY ROMANCES
Over four years ago, I posted up a ranking of the Hallmark Valentine’s Day romances. While that should still stand and be all well and good, I had posted it as a link or teaser to a video I filed sharing those rankings. Since I haven’t filmed a video in over a year, and have in fact deleted them, leaving this to stand seems incomplete content. So today we’re re-writing this and sharing a written version. Let’s dig in.
LIST | SWEET AND FUN ROMANCE MOVIES THAT FEATURE VALENTINE’S DAY
💗THE POST WHEREIN WE RANK THE HALLMARK VALENTINE’S DAY ROMANCES💗 RANKING THE HALLMARK VALENTINE'S DAY MOVIES IN WRITTEN FORM. #HALLMARKIES #HALLMARKMOVIES #ROMANCEMOVIES #LOVEUARY #LACEYCHABERT #TYLERHYNES #SAMPAGE #TAYLORCOLE Share on XInstead of reviewing any (at least not today), I instead take this list and rank their Countdown to Valentine’s Day originals. At least some of them. And in truth, the ‘countdown’ name is outdated. The Valentine’s Day campaign name became “Love Ever After” and now is “Loveuary.”
Below I list some of their Valentine’s Day originals from years past (unfortunately, I haven’t seen the 2023 lineup). If you’re interested to know more – and how I rank these, I have reviews for most of these, plus of course, I talk about each one below.
With that said, let’s have a look at the many Hallmark originals I use to rank in this blog post!
Ranking the Hallmark Valentine’s Day Romances
sorted from least to most favorite
ALL OF MY HEART
Despite its immense popularity, I never really loved this one. Why I don’t know.
LOVE AT FIRST GLANCE
Love the concept of this and it was heavily promoted for Valentine’s Day to air on the day. However, I didn’t take to this one like I thought. Follows a woman who shares a connection with a stranger on a train and tries to find him again. Adrian Grenier does co-star, who is the dude from Devil Wears Prada.
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF LOVE
This one, if I remember right, is quite sweet. Probably because I like the two leading stars and the meteorologist angle is cute as well.
PLAYING CUPID
This one has bright and cheerful promotional material and I really did want to enjoy it. But something about it fell flat. If memory serves me, it’s also supposed to be a kind of lose Emma re-telling, too.
SO YOU SAID YES
Kellie Martin stars in this cute romance about a woman who has vintage style and owns a dress shop. Only when she falls in love, it ends up being with someone who’s a bit of an “enemy.”
BEVERLY HILLS WEDDING
A comedy about a woman helping her sister plan her wedding with the ex she doesn’t want to work with.
IT WAS ALWAYS YOU
Really wanted to love this one. It was also heavily promoted and features Erin Krakow and Tyler Hynes. The plot is about a woman getting married only to fall in love with the brother of her fiancé.
MY SECRET VALENTINE
I do really like the plot of this one and its leading man. It’s a kind of leaving notes for each other premise that is all kinds of cute.
A DASH OF LOVE
Don’t remember a great deal of this one except that it involves chefs and Jen Lilley stars, and she always makes anything cute.
THE STORY OF US
Don’t remember all the specifics of this one, but I do like the cast and enjoyed the plot, too.
BE MY VALENTINE
This is actually an older title featuring William Baldwin playing a fireman. Honestly… I remember being really surprised by how well I liked this and it’s even one I have the DVD for.
MATCHING HEARTS
A matchmaker flick, this one features Taylor Cole as a woman who lives fulfilled as a matchmaker, only what happens when you fall for a client?
SWEETER THAN CHOCOLATE
This is the one 2023 title I did half watch while working on this list. It’s a sweet story about a chocolatier operating a small chocolate shop that is famous for selling cupid chocolate that leads to true love. hallmark valentines day romances
DATER’S HANDBOOK
I did and still do really enjoy this one, but I don’t think it’s the same favorite it once was. Still, the cast is good and I still think it’s one of Hallmark’s better romcoms.
A VALENTINE’S MATCH
Bethany Joy Lenz stars in this about a woman who returns home and must contend not only with a reunion with her ex, but also scheming mothers.
VALENTINES AGAIN
After delays in airing this one, also known as Once Upon a Winter’s Dream, this one aired on Hallmark at some point though I don’t know that it was with any campaign. Either way, I did enjoy the Groundhog day type premise. Super sweet.
ANYTHING FOR LOVE
This is another one that really surprised me. Paul Greene, who is a fan favorite, stars as a nurse and Erika Christensen stars as a career woman unlucky in love because men are “too intimidated” by her career. This inspires her to lie about her career in order to find a date or two. The plot is fun, and I like that the story “feels” more grown up than some without sacrificing the cute factor. hallmark valentines day romances
VALENTINE EVER AFTER
All kinds of cute, Autumn Reeser stars here in a story about best friends who go on a kind of “dude ranch” adventure together.
ALL THINGS VALENTINE
Still have a soft spot for this film featuring Sarah Rafferty (from Suits) and Sam Page. It’s just fun and cute and perfectly Valentine’s Day.
Also a part of previous Hallmark Valentine Day campaigns (but I don’t include in the rankings) are: Appetite for Love; I Do, I Do, I Do; Love in Store; Love, Romance and Chocolate; The Secret Ingredient; Valentine in the Vineyard; Very Very Valentine ; plus more!
Hallmark’s 2023 originals include: Made for Each Other | A Paris Proposal | Sweeter than Chocolate | Welcome to Valentine
