DEBUT NOVELS I DID ENJOY READING (FROM TALENTED AUTHORS!)
When it comes to making book lists, often times my memory is vague. By this I mean it’s not so bold as I remember details like character traits or the exact “thing” about the book I adored. Today’s topic is to feature debut novels by debut authors that I enjoyed. This is probably an easier topic because I feel like you can generally remember better what books you liked in a more general sense.
LIST | OTP FAVORITE: HELEN CHAPEL and JOE HACKETT from WINGS
DEBUT NOVELS I DID ENJOY READING (FROM TALENTED AUTHORS!). A list of the debut novels I did enjoy. #Authors #Books #BookList #TopTen #TopTenBooks Share on XLet’s see what titles we can come up with all while admitting that, like almost any of our lists, this will repeat titles. (Additionally, this is true because I feel as though I’ve done this topic before.)
DEBUT NOVELS BY DEBUT AUTHORS THAT I DID ENJOY
RULES of MURDER, JULIANNA DEERING
A mystery novel set in the 1940s, this one is fabulous. Goodreads
THE HOPE of AZURE SPRINGS, RACHEL FORDHAM
Again, I remember very little about this novel, but I read it back when the INSPYs was still up and running. At the time, all I remember is being surprised that I enjoyed it (since I’m not, these days, much of a historical fiction reader). Goodreads
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU, MARISA KANTOR
I loved this novel, mostly because it was about a girl with a book review blog, which was fun. Goodreads
TWEET CUTE, EMMA LORD
Still the only novel I’ve read by Lord, but it was a cute read. Goodreads
REMEMBRANCE, MICHELLE MADOW
Inspired by Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story,’ this novel is cute. Goodreads
AMY AND ROGER’S EPIC DETOUR, MORGAN MATSON
I don’t remember much about Morgan’s novel, but Goodreads tells me I read it and I rated it a four star, so there had to have been things I enjoyed at the time. Even if I wouldn’t love it as much now, I think when I read it is what counts. Goodreads
THE BACHELOR GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER, RACHEL MCMILLAN
A fun mystery in the tradition of Murdoch Mysteries or Sherlock Holmes, these books are quite fun. Goodreads
ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, STEPHANIE PERKINS
Still have fond memories of reading this one. It was so cute. Goodreads
SUBMERGED, DANI PETTREY
This did so impress me when I read it at the time. I cannot remember details or all that I adored about the book, but it was a good read and the novel that reminded me (back when it released) that a good suspense novel can be a good read. Goodreads
DEAR MR. KNIGHTLEY, KATHERINE REAY
I didn’t intend to love this novel because it’s written in letter format, but I did. And I read several novels after this. Now I just have to catch up and read some of her more recent novels. Goodreads
GEEK GIRL, HOLLY SMALE
I see almost no one talking about these, but I thought they were SO much fun. I loved the character and the concept and just everything. Goodreads
MY STUBBORN HEART, BECKY WADE
I quite enjoyed My Stubborn Heart (though I think my reviews mention a thing or two I didn’t love) and would re-read it. It was the start of my introduction to Becky’s novel and I’m still reading them today. Like Dani’s (in her genre), this is one of the other books that reminded me how much I love this genre. Goodreads

Linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl July 23: Debut Novels I Enjoyed (A debut novel is an author’s first published book. You could also choose to share genre or age group debuts if you’d prefer, such as an adult fiction author’s first YA book or a mystery writer’s first romance.) (submitted by Angela @ Reading Frenzy)
I only read Anna and the French Kiss years ago. It was predictable, but enjoyable. However, I wasn’t eager on picking up the other books in this series.

I really enjoyed ‘Anna’ at the time (and because of this, sometimes I don’t want to reread books in case my memory of them tarnishes ;D), and I did read ‘Lola.’ Didn’t care for that one quite as well, but I still plan to read the third book at some point. :)
I’ve heard so many good things about Tweet Cute.
As its title says, it is indeed cute. ;)
Ooo I will have to add The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder to my list! I love Murdoch!
I thought the Bachelor Girl’s books were so fun, and I feel like, at the time, I was reminded of Murdoch with some things. :)
I didn’t know Tweet Cute was Emma Lord’s debut! I loved that one.
According to Goodreads it sure is! It was a fun read no matter where it falls in her publications. :)
Anne and the French Kiss was one of my favorites as a teen, And Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is one of my reasons why i love road trips
I really enjoyed ‘Anna’ as well. It was so cute. It’s been a while since I read ‘Amy and Roger’ but I did enjoy it. :)
Great list, Rissi! I have fond memories about reading Anna and the French Kiss and Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour as well.
Same for me about ‘Anna.’ I don’t remember much about ‘Amy & Roger,’ but someday I want to read more by Morgan. :)
Remembrance sure sounds interesting.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It was quite cute if I remember right. :)
Oh I love all these picks!!
Thanks. :)
I’ve heard great things about Tweet Cute by Emma Lord, but I haven’t given it a try yet. I think it’s because it’s YA, and I’m feeling a bit disconnected to a lot of YA (it might have something to do with my age).

I understand this, Pam. I’ve probably been moving further and further away from YA. I think to some extent it’s because I feel “less” about the genre, and others it’s because I feel “silly” reading it given my adult age. But sometimes I still read it like Kasie West if I want something totally fun and silly. :)
I struggled to remember which author’s book was the “debut” novel. It wasn’t a problem for more recent ones, but for older ones it was. I still haven’t read Becky Wade’s My Stubborn Heart yet (and I own it!).
I’ll confess, I used Goodreads to double check. ;) Sometimes I easily remember like with My Stubborn Heart, and other times I doubt myself.
LOL, I did too! I had no choice.
It’s nice to be able to double check our work! But even at that, I know I mess up sometimes. ;)
I also really enjoyed Amy & Roger! I haven’t read Tweet Cute but I’ve read other books by Emma Lord and really enjoyed them.
I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed other books by Emma. I preordered her newest (I think – sometimes I forget which books I have on preorder) and think it sounds like it’ll be lots of fun! :)
Tweet Cute definitely lived up to it’s name. I’ll have to try more from the author some time.
I have to give more of Emma’s books a chance, too, Lauren. They look and sound fun! :)
I haven’t read any of these, but a few of them sound really cute! I’ve got my eye on Anna and the French Kiss – that’s going onto my TBR, and I have no idea how it wasn’t already on there. Thanks for the heads up, and great list this week as usual!
I do love a cute read. :) I hope you enjoy ‘Anna’ if you read it. It’s so fun and is a nostalgic kind of read.
