SWEET AND FUN ROMANCE MOVIES THAT FEATURE VALENTINE’S DAY

When it comes to movies that feature a fun holiday, it can be fun to “dig into” which ones fit. Some immediately come to mind and are easy to place. Others take a bit more looking and work to find. As the fourteenth approaches, we’re going to see what we can find for Valentine’s Day movies and hope we find enough to make a little list.

As I started work on this, probably only two came to mind without having to look. One I really do like, and the other is so-so. We’re going to write up what we have and maybe, hopefully, find one or two other titles to fill in and that fits the theme here. Let’s see what we discover.

VALENTINE’S DAY MOVIES

I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY

Honestly, I remember very little about this. I do know I was curious and excited to see it because it reunites Nia Vardalos with John Corbett. Beyond this there’s not much I can recall which makes me confident that this isn’t a favorite. It follows a florist who has a rule about five dates only then a new restaurateur opens close to her shop, and he challenges everything.

IT HAPPENED ONE VALENTINE’S

This is one of those little TV films that perhaps doesn’t get a lot of attention. It’s about a reporter who tries to play “cupid” to a pop star, only things don’t go according to plan.

THE LOST VALENTINE

More on the bittersweet side, this follows a woman (played by Betty White) as she recounts her love story to a reporter. Each year, on Valentine’s Day, she waits at the train station for the husband who was never brought home after the second war. Jennifer Love Hewitt co-stars.

LOVE LOCKS

I didn’t ever see this, but it features an in-real-life-couple who star as former lovers reuniting. It aired as part of the Hallmark Hall of Fame (which are usually a bit deeper than Hallmark Channel films) just prior to Valentine’s Day and a lot of the promotional imagery is hearts.

MEET MY VALENTINE

More bittersweet (at least this is my impression) than light hearted, this one follows a man struggling to move on after losing his wife.

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE

Ok, so it’s been a LONG time since I watched this. In my research, this one kept popping up. Is it set around Valentine’s Day? I cannot remember but as it is a well-loved romance drama, I added it regardless. It follows a woman who ends up forming a connection with a widower through a radio program. valentines day movies

VALENTINE’S DAY

This one is an automatic add because, well, the title tells us why. The ensemble cast makes the film more fun as does the various vignettes of stories that we discover. One of Garry Marshall’s films that gets all kinds of flack, I do think this is entertaining if not perfect.

YOU’RE SO CUPID

I don’t think this one has anything specific to do with Valentine’s Day, but I’m including it because any rom-com with Cupid in its title is worth adding, right? Plus it is a fun story about two girls playing matchmaker to their parents.

MORE choices

There are also countless Hallmark Channel films that fit the Valentine’s Day theme and are part of the networks earlier “Countdown to Valentine’s Day” turned “Loveurary” campaigns. Some of these are:

All Things Valentine

Be My Valentine

Love at First Glance

Matching Hearts

My Secret Valentine

Playing Cupid

Valentine Ever After

Valentine’s Again aka Once Upon a Winter’s Date

A Valentine’s Match

Very, Very Valentine
