SIXTEEN VALENTINE’S DAY MOVIES THAT CENTER ON THE POPULAR DAY

When it comes to finding films that are actually proper Valentine’s Day movies, well, that’s a rarity. There are dozens of romantic comedies, but there aren’t many that fit the specific Valentine mold. Still, there are a few, some of which already have their closeup here, and others I found when looking into it this year. There still aren’t many, but sometimes it’s fun to curate seasonal content and this “greeting card” holiday is one of the fun days to do this with.

Whether you love Valentine’s Day or as Kara Monahan would feel, you loathe it, sometimes a happy (or perhaps not so happy) movie is required. Let’s warm up the search engine and see which titles (a little something for everyone) we can find, shall we?

VALENTINE’S DAY MOVIES to WATCH

BE MINE

As a woman takes over her mother’s business, she works with one of the store’s employees to plan a flower competition that centers on Valentine’s Day! Ashley Newbrough and Jon Cor star in this, and the film is also known as The Valentine Competition.

BE MINE, VALENTINE

This follows a businesswoman who is overwhelmed in her business that helps clients plan proposals. Things becomes a little messy when she falls for a brother of her client.

Note: if it bothers you, the plot line of this one does include a same sex relationship, which I base on the synopsis (I haven’t watched the film).

BE MY VALENTINE, CHARLIE BROWN

Animated yes, and perhaps “silly,” but Charlie Brown is also a kind of iconic character which means adding this Valentine’s Day special is an addition I enjoyed adding.

THE BERENSTAIN BEARS’ COMIC VALENTINE

From what I can tell, this 30-minute special isn’t available to watch or stream anywhere which means I shouldn’t include it here. However, I am because I read so many of these as a kid, and loved them all. They were some of my “happy place” favorites and I enjoyed the stories. This one tells a story about Brother Bear and he gets distracted when a secret admirer starts to send him valentine’s.

A CHARMING VALENTINE

I haven’t seen this one, but based on the title, I’m assuming this one involves Valentine’s Day somehow! It about a businesswoman who helps startups become successful. Her next project is called “Love Subscription” and I’m sure a romance with its business creator will ensue! Originally this one is also known as The Love Subscription.

FIVE BLIND DATES

This one is a 2024 Prime release about a woman who finds herself unlucky in business and love. It’s one that does have a Valentine’s Day theme which is what the film leads up to.

HOLIDATE

Emma Roberts stars in this film from Netflix about a woman who agrees to be a plus one (and he hers) over the course of a year of events and holidays. I think probably Christmas plays a larger role in this story, but I think Valentine’s Day does have some kind of play in the plot.

Note; this one does have an R / TV-MA rating

LOVE in the VINEYARD

This one follows a woman who has everything going for her (an amazing promotion and supportive boyfriend) only on Valentine’s Day her world changes when they learn that Jackson has a child!

Stream, at publication, on Prime Video or Tubi

MY FUNNY VALENTINE

A young writer finds love eludes him (again) and so he does what he does best and writes into his story the girl of his dreams when he meets Zoe. I hadn’t seen this one, but did watch part of it and wanted to love it. Sadly, I didn’t. It just didn’t work and I didn’t find it endearing.

Note; this one is unrated but in the time I watched it there were multi F-words, and conversation about the weird places a table of people have had sex and other sexual innuendo.

Stream, at publication, with Plex, Roku or Tubi; or you can digitally rent on Prime Video

ON VALENTINE’S DAY

Described as a prequel to 1918, this one follows lovers who elope in 1917, and the anger it causes among their families. Presumably Valentine’s Day somewhere considering that’s in its title.

Stream, at publication, on Plex, Pluto TV, Roku or Tubi; or you can digitally rent/purchase on Prime Video

PICNIC at HANGING ROCK (1975)

This one is a mystery film and there are conflicting reports about it being inspired by a true story. It is based on a novel and centers on St. Valentine’s Day when a group of girls living in the 1900s Australia disappear without a trace.

THE PINK PANTHER IN ‘PINK AT FIRST SIGHT’ (1981)

Not a cartoon that I can find anywhere, but I added it just because the Pink Panther is pink and it seems too perfect not to include. Plus, the idea of seeing the Pink Panther in love is kind of amusing.

A VALENTINE’S CAROL

This one follows a talk show host who is quite cynical about love despite her job, which is to give people advice. On the even of her wedding, she’s visited by a ghost who takes Ally on a journey to revisit her past.

A VALENTINE’S DATE

A mother moves back to her hometown when her ex files for custody of their daughter. Apart from the title, I cannot remember how involved anything Valentine is in this flick, but even if it isn’t, I think it’s a sweet romance story. This one is also known as You’re Love Never Fails which is, I think, the title I saw it under.

Stream, at publication, on Prime Video

VALENTINE’S TOWN

This one follows in the footsteps of conflict about two people who strike up conflict when one wants to build a resort and another is a local who believes this will be bad for the town. It’s also a reunion romance story, too.

Stream, at publication, on Prime Video; or purchase on places like Prime Video

WINNIE THE POOH: A VALENTINE FOR YOU

This cartoon says that Pooh and his friends believe Valentine’s Day is something it isn’t and so they out to stop the day happening! As I am sure will be true, this one will end up teaching them something different.

MORE to CONSIDER

These are titles that have debuted on Hallmark, but since I talk about Hallmark movies (a lot!), I decided to feature them as an afterthought rather than primary. How many of these have you seen and loved?

    1. There are SO many of these “TV” romcoms (sometimes they retitle them too) out there. I haven’t seen most either. I tend to love the While You Were Sleeping (older era) style of feature rom-coms, so these aren’t always ones I watch. BUT I do watch a lot of the Hallmark movies. :)
