AS IF! ‘CLUELESS’ 30 YEARS LATER MOVIE ANNIVERSARY
Three decades ago, a little film called Clueless made its debut on the big screen. The film featured Alicia Silverstone and a young, then unknown Paul Rudd in roles that are memorable. Particularly Silverstone who immortalizes the role of Cher in a unique way and much like Reese Witherspoon’s What Like It’s Hard? quote, Cher also has the iconic As If! quote. Given this milestone that the by now cult classic is having, we’re here to toss some confetti and celebrate it with a little Clueless movie 30 years gone anniversary milestone (and BTW, we have lots of other celebratory anniversary features).
LIST | ‘X-MEN’ 25 YEARS LATER: WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THE SUPERHEROES
AS IF! ‘CLUELESS’ 30 YEARS LATER MOVIE ANNIVERSARY. Celebrating #Clueless 30 years later! #Cher #AsIf #JaneAusten Share on XThe film, just in case you forgot or didn’t know, is loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, and because of this, it couldn’t be celebrating this event during a better year. Austen has a big birthday this year and two iconic classic adaptations also have big birthdays. This film’s Emma is Silverstone’s Cher, the popular and pretty girl in school who tries to mold a young Brittany Murphey into a member of her group, while trying to matchmake. Of course, same as the OG story would dictate, Cher nearly misses what could be her ideal match in her pursuit of “fixing” everyone else.
The film seems to cause some to be mad (let’s be real, we all have films that do), but it’s one I enjoy watching now and then when I want to turn my brain “off,” and enjoy something silly. So in the spirit of that – and having fun, let’s look back on what makes Clueless anything but its, well, clueless.
CLUELESS MOVIE ANNIVERSARY 30 years later
CHER
I love Cher. She is very Emma-like and on the same token, she’s her own person. I love who she starts being (even in her flaws, girl does have confidence) and who she ends up becoming. Still, she needs a heavy reality check, which she does get. Oddly, putting Emma (Cher in this scenario) into the world of high school also fits since she is perhaps on of Austen’s most immature heroines. Still, she does have standards which one has to admire, too.

Of course, to be fair, there is also a side of Cher that may be a bit of a mean girl, however she is still insanely likable and knowing that parts of Austen’s character is influencing her, well, we get that she has an arc, and she’ll come out better for this.
FRIENDSHIP
I think the friendship part of the film is nice. Sure Cher and Dionne have their ups and downs, but I think overall, their bond is strong and of course, their sense of high fashion is, well, unique. We love that they are who they are even when they may be being a bit snobbish as two people assuming they set trends. clueless movie 30 years
the GIRLINESS
I respect that not everyone likes a girly movie. I get it even. A good thriller or cozy mystery here and there is always on my agenda, but I think that girly films or the appearance of seemingly unapologetically girliness shouldn’t be lost or apologized for. There’s a place for different types of stories. Cher and Dionne both embody this through these characters and perhaps unimportant, but it’s a big reason why I love these two; they both lean into the girly (which is part of who they are) and the film does this in a way that movies today seem to only show of the, well, mean girl characters. (And no, I’m not talking of anything outside of a story’s look.)
NOW QUOTING
Ugh! As if!
– Cher, Clueless
Yes, Cher’s iconic quote needs a heading all its own. In fairness though, most of this film is quotable and good fun – even if the pop culture references are outdated, I still love films like this!

PAUL RUDD
Just seeing Paul Rudd pop up in this is enough. It’s great fun seeing him prior to his arrival to the Marvel world as Ant-Man, a role he made so very memorable and hilarious.
THE YOUNG CAST
Other familiar faces also appear who we now know as popular box office draws. Of course, there is also Brittany Murphy, the woman who had more than one feel-good movie but sadly, passed away too young several years ago.

We also see Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer and Jeremy Sisto.
