SOME OF THE BEACH-Y READS ON MY SHELF

Summertime is fully in swing and for some of us we are perhaps already dreading those short and cold winter days. But they aren’t here just yet so we get to settle in and see what summer-ish reads we might find on our shelf. More specifically the Beachy Reads we can find. And yes, I realize some of these covers aren’t depicting a beach (but they do have water!) and aren’t always set on a beach. Still, we’re just here to have some fun.

Let’s see if I can find any newer-to-my-shelf titles to include. To be honest, I don’t know that I can, but since it’s probably a good thing to challenge oneself, it’s probably good to dig through the bookshelves and see what we find. Not sure how successful this book hunt shall be, but let’s take a look and see if we can find any ideal (looking if nothing else!) titles to pack in that beach bag!

BEACHY READS on my SHELF

PERSUASION, JANE AUSTEN

There is a scene (if I remember right) that takes place near water or the beach in a couple of the adaptations, so I’m assuming the book takes these characters on a little trip too! Plus, this painted edition seems to showcase a beach day. Goodreads

LOVE FINDS YOU in CARMEL BY THE SEA CALIFORNIA, SANDRA D. BRICKER

This is one of those titles I’ve had for some time but I don’t think I’ve read. It looks like it would be a pretty period drama though. Goodreads

THE INN at OCEAN’S EDGE and TIDEWATER INN, COLLEEN COBLE

More than one of Colleen’s novels seems to have something to do with water. The ‘Tidewater’ novel is part of a series called Hope Beach and is one I read years ago. I didn’t ever read ‘Ocean’s Edge’ though. ‘Ocean’s Edge’ on Goodreads | ‘Tidewater’ on Goodreads

LOVE FINDS YOU in PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, SUSAN PAGE DAVIS

Another ‘love finds you’ title that looks stunning! It’s also a title I’ve had on my shelf for way too long. Probably one I bought because of my love of the 80 versions of Anne of Green Gables. Goodreads

A SPARKLE of SILVER, LIZ JOHNSON

I read a few of Liz’s book back in the days of ARCs and blog tours, but haven’t read one in a while. I think this one is set in Georgia, so it seems interesting. Plus, that title seems like it’d be interesting. Goodreads

CRYSTAL COVE, LISA KLEYPAS

After reading a different title in Lisa’s Friday Harbor books, I picked this one up and still haven’t read it. This one follows a successful businesswoman who is missing out on love. Goodreads

CODE WORD ROMANCE, CARLIE WALKER

This one looks like the ideal kind of beach read. I also read a review for this one and it sounds like it’d be, well, entertaining. Naturally I preordered this one and so I had to include it on this list because look at all that summer in the cover art. Goodreads

TROUBLED WATERS and WAIT for ME, SUSAN MAY WARREN

Adventure novels, these two books are part of a six book (I think) series that I only read book one in. I do own most if not all of the series though so someday I should read the rest or unhaul them. Back in the day, I read all of Susan’s novels. ‘Water’ on Goodreads | ‘Wait’ on Goodreads

IT HAD to be YOU and WEDDING BELL BLUES, LINDA WINDSOR

Like other titles on this list, I read books by Linda Windsor years ago but haven’t recently. I often wonder if I’d still enjoy It Had to Be You if I re-read it today (might be fun to find out!) and I never did read ‘Wedding.’ The cover looks very summer-y and a little dreamy as well (though it’s quite outdated by today’s cover art standards). ‘You’ on Goodreads | ‘Wedding’ on Goodreads

Would you read any of these? Have you read any of them? What type of book do you take to the beach? Share all of your thoughts in the comment section below!

  1. Persuasion does have a seaside scene, like the adaptations portray! I’ve also read Liz Johnson’s and both of Susan May Warren’s on your list. Liz’s is fantastic! I remember enjoying the whole SMW series, but like you, it’s been a minute since I’ve read them (or anything by her) and I wonder if I would love them as much today.

    1. I assumed so – and I feel like this Painted Edition is portraying a seaside-esque scene, too! :) I often wonder this about books too – would I love them as much today? Sometimes I’m confident I will, and other times I’m not which I think “scares” me away from rereading because I’d rather cling to the memory of loving a book. ;)

  2. What a lovely idea for a Top Ten Tuesday! I really enjoyed seeing your personal take on “beachy reads” and how you find those summer vibes even in unexpected places on your shelf. Your selection looks fantastic – so many inviting titles!

    1. Thanks so much, Teresa! It’s always fun to see how everyone spins the topic and infuses their own reflection or love of books into the lists! :)

  3. I am not a beach person but I don’t mind reading books about beaches. Lol. I hate being hot, sitting in the sun, and the sand is yuck to me – I sound like a grumpy old lady! LOL. I don’t mind sitting by a shady lake with a beach though. Must be the Michigan in me. :) I like your list, and that you included Persuasion! That cover is gorgeous!

    1. I’ve actually never been to a beach BUT I don’t like being hot either. If it’s a cooler sunny day I do LOVE summer though. I’ve learned I’m not a winter person at all. ;) And I agree, this Persuasion cover is a stunner!

  4. I also loosely interpreted beachy. I haven’t seen that Lisa Kleypas book and there was a time when I couldn’t get enough of her books. Great list!

    1. I read a Christmas book by Lisa YEARS ago (it was adapted as a TV film) and LOVED it. So I think that’s why I snagged this one! Hopefully I’ll read it soon. :)
