12 OF THE IDEAL MOVIES TO WATCH FOR FALL
Much to the excitement of many, autumn is in the air, and the crisp seasonal air now surrounds us. While I am not unappreciative of glorious autumn weather, well, I am not happy that it’s nearer winter. But that’s beside the point. The point is to look at some more of the best fall movies 2025 list that maybe you should add to your watchlist.
LIST | TONY DINOZZO AND ZIVA DAVID: THE ‘NCIS’ LOVE STORY
12 OF THE IDEAL MOVIES TO WATCH FOR FALL. #MoviesList #MyOxfordYear #MeghannFay #Twilight Share on XComedy and romance, plus a drama or too, well, there are (hopefully!) some good titles we can find and feature. Some of the titles also feature some really impressive star power, too. Some of them also have all of the autumn aesthetics while others just feel a bit more like fall. So, here we go. Let’s see what titles fit this playbook.
MORE of the BEST FALL MOVIES
ADMISSION
This film has Tina Fey, a career woman who works in the admissions department of a prestigious college. It’s a position that she’s uniquely positioned to help, but she doesn’t. Until… she meets Paul Rudd’s character, a man running an alternative school with a student he thinks she may want to help.
Note: this film is PG-13 for some sexual content and profanity/crude humor
Digitally purchase or rent on places like Prime Video
DROP
This is a unique thriller movie that is mostly conversational rather than action driven. Meghann Fahy, one of the current “it” stars, stars as lead and the plot is about a woman who goes on her first date in years only to have the unthinkable happen. The movie is, I think, quite interesting and definitely a more memorable movie for the genre.

ECHO VALLEY
Despite this releasing in the summer, this is more of an autumn title. It’s a dark mystery with Sydney Sweeney (who really has a very limited role) playing a woman who cannot get her act together. This then is the main crux of the film as we see the aftermath of danger she brings to her mother’s (played by Julianne Moore) doorstep where her life soon is threatened.
Note: this film is rated R for profanity and violence
Stream, at publication with Apple TV+
JUROR #2
An interesting and surprisingly compelling drama that is slow-moving, yes, with a concept that is good. It’s about a man picked for a jury only for him to come to realize that he has a connection to the crime and subject of the trial. Clint Eastwood directs and Nicholas Hoult stars.

Note: this film is PG-13 for some violence / thematic elements, and profanity
Stream, at publication with HBO Max or Hulu; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
LONELY PLANET
This is an age-gap romance that has Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth as two people who gravitate towards each other when they meet at a writer’s retreat. The film has some stunning scenery and compared to most movies in this genre, it does actually take a bit of time to show how these two forge a connection.

Note: this film is rated R for sexual content and profanity
Stream exclusively with Netflix
MISS WILLOUGHBY and the HAUNTED BOOKSHOP
This is a cute and simple mystery that follows a woman who, years ago lots her parents, and is raised by a guardian who teaches her all kinds of skills which helps her grow into a confident and smart young woman who loves to solve mysteries.
Note: PG is the rating
Digitally purchase or rent on places like Prime Video
MY OXFORD YEAR
Sofia Carson reteams with Netflix for this adaptation about a woman who decides to fulfill her dream of Oxford study and stay for a year. Based on the novel of the same name is one of those sad movies that does leave its heroine in a good place, but not before there are sure to be tears.

Note: PG-13 is the rating for sexual content / thematic elements and profanity
Stream, at publication, with Netflix
THE PROVIDENCE FALLS, trilogy
This was advertised as a “Summer Nights” movie event from Hallmark, but let’s be real, it doesn’t really feel like a summer-y title. Instead, I think these movies are an autumn. The event (which is three 90 minute films) wasn’t nearly as well received as the network hoped and I do think it could have used some polish here and there, but the story entertains. We follow Cora, a woman reincarnated and working as a detective, and Liam, the man she loved in the 1800s who is sent to her modern timeline in order to ensure she marries her fated match (a man who is not Liam!).

Stream, at publication, all three parts on Hallmark+
SIDELINED: THE QB and ME
A Tubi title, this is one of those young adult adaptations that is moody and in some regards to the drama. It’s about a romance with a cool, kind of I-don’t-care attitude and (obviously) a quarterback! This is also a title that is supposed to have a sequel with returning cast and its characters.
Note: PG-13 is the rating for some sensuality and profanity
Stream, at publication with Tubi
STARTER for 10
Did I just feature this title on our 2025 College Movies list? Why, yes, yes, I did. However, it’s quite the fun flick and the cast is impressive, so it deserves the two-successive run shout-out. The plot follows James McAvoy’s Brian as a doesn’t-quite-fit-in university newbie who tries to make it on the challenge team after years of filling his mind with endless facts and quiz answers.
Note: PG-13 is the rating for sensuality and some profanity
Stream, at publication with HBO Max or Hulu; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB
Another title that is an adaptation, The Thursday Murder Club is a ton of fun! It’s got a little of everything from comedy to mystery and the cast is so good too. Pierce Bronson, Helen Mirren and Celia Imrie co-star.

Note: this has a PG-13 rating for some violence (there are bodies) / thematic elements and some profanity.
Stream, at publication, with Netflix
TWILIGHT, series
I have never (in my life!) seen or read the films and books that is Twilight. However, being a story of werewolves and vampires, the films seem very moody and autumn-y and of course, use that love triangle thing that stories still want us to think is the epitome of “good” teen romance (at least this one isn’t brothers, right?). About all I know about these is that its three lead stars really got their start here and the wedding scene (in movie four, maybe?) is quite gorgeous! Beyond this I’ve never seen this and I’m not really sure I want to even now with the big anniversary and reignited excitement.

Note: PG-13 is the rating for sexuality, violence / scary moments
Digitally purchase or rent on places like Prime Video
