The show is, as we likely all know, about Miss Eliza Scarlet, a woman who is now running and making her own, her father’s detective agency. She works with Scotland Yard on many cases, and while she’s wise in making deductions in her work, she struggles to connect in relationships which has brought her a bit of heartbreak here and there. As this sixth year is about to begin on PBS, let’s talk (again!) about why you should tune in (maybe even if you’ve seen it!) to the broadcast premiere of season six.

there will be spoilers below

THE COSTUMING

I’m 99.9% sure I mention this every single time I write a list for or write a review for a season of Miss Scarlet, but it bears repeating. The costuming is gorgeous (just look at the details on those sleeves!) in this show. It’s also worn so well by lead star Kate Phillips, who seems at ease in everything. Something I would imagine isn’t the easiest with all the layers, and weight period authentic clothing likely has.

ELIZA, the heroine

It’s quite true that I’ve had my gripes with Eliza and I still do. She bugs me each season because I feel like she keeps making the same mistakes, and I want to see growth for her in order to experience growth. This said, I do think last series did this for her and I appreciate this.

Despite the flaws I find with her, I do still like her and think her sass and feistiness is great fun.

THE RETURN of MOSES

It’s safe to say, because PBS has been promoting this (so no spoiler!) that seeing Moses, played by Ansu Kabia, returnis quite the highlight of season six. I loved him for the time he was in the earlier seasons, and now seeing him return, especially with the addition of watching him try to integrate into the new team Eliza works with is interesting and adds some new dimension and interest.

Plus, more interesting is what his arrival back in Eliza’s life that forces her to look closer at a relationship that she has formed an unexpected intimacy in.

THE ROMANCE

This is the first season that I’d say really has a stronger romance thread in regards to a certain character. I don’t want to spoil anything, but suffice to say, there is romance for this character during the six episodes that play out and
