BEST FEEL-GOOD MOVIES NOW on PRIME VIDEO

A WEDDING for BELLA

This is one I think I’ve seen, but it was years ago. Remembering the details is sketchy because of this but I feel like it’s a cute and happy flick. It also has Scott Baio in it, which is why it caught my eye since I’ve seen episodes of the 90s sitcom Charles in Charge.

Having said this, I do think this one gets bittersweet and kind of sad in places too. So, you know, this one isn’t all upbeat.

Synopsis: By day Dominic Pyzola (Scott Baio) is a corporate raider and by night an Italian pastry chef. Upon learning that his upstairs neighbor and surrogate mother, Bella, has fallen seriously ill, he is determined to see Bella’s long-time dream come true. When Dominic schemes to marry Bella’s daughter, two worlds collide in this touching, romantic tale of love, dreams and biscotti. – via Prime Video

A WEEK in PARADISE

This is a title I read about years ago but never did see until, well, now. It’s available on Prime Video so I did take advantage. It has Malin Ackerman and Philip Winchester. The plot is about a woman who takes an escape trip to the Caribbean in the aftermath of a failed relationship

This one moves a bit slow, doesn’t have the best acting for every character, and some of the filming is a little off. However, overall, this film is upbeat and really sweet. It also puts the focus on the friendship between the two female leads.

Synopsis: Maggie escapes to the Caribbean after a failed marriage. At her cousin’s resort, she meets Sam and imagines a new future. – via Prime Video

BLIND DATING

Chris Pine starred in this before he was a big star and it’s really a pretty funny film. Pine is blind and for his entire life lives with a protective family. Then his brother tries to set him up, and he instead meets a nice girl who he falls madly in love with.

Synopsis: A blind young man (Pine) thinks he finds love with an Indian woman (Jay), though their relationship is fraught with cultural differences. – via Prime Video

BORN YESTERDAY

Synopsis: A Las Vegas showgirl whose lack of sophistication and makes for some hilariously embarrassing moments in the Washington, D.C., social scene. – via Prime Video

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

A classic that is lots of fun with all of its bright musical numbers, this one does run a little overlong, but Dick Van Dyke is funny as an inventor who must try and reclaim one of his impressive projects. The film from there is an adventure of trying to evade the villain and lots of music.

Synopsis: An eccentric inventor buys an old jalopy and amazes his children by turning it into a miraculous flying car – but when it’s stolen by villains from a land where children are outlawed, the chase is on! – via Prime Video

FIVE BLIND DATES

A cute flick, this one is about a woman who focuses on her business over anything else, which means her love life has taken a hit. Then a fortune teller tells her that she’ll meet her true love in one of her next five dates which naturally inspires everyone in her life to rush to set her up!

Synopsis: More focused on her business than finding love, Lia is forced to go on five blind dates set up by her family and best friend after she is told by a fortune teller that her love life and the success of her tea shop are intertwined. – via Prime Video

HEADS of STATE

This is a sometimes silly actioner, but it’s also a really good time. It has a ton of star power (which includes, but isn’t limited to, John Cena and Idris Elba), plus the typical crazy action scenes.

Synopsis: The UK Prime Minister (Idris Elba) and US President (John Cena) have a public rivalry that risks their countries’ alliance. But when they become targets of a powerful enemy, they’re forced to rely on each other as they go on a wild, multinational run. – via Prime Video

HOME AGAIN

Reese Witherspoon leads this film that I don’t think many people love. I think it’s a bit underrated and is actually a pretty good one.

It’s an age-gap will-they-romance that morphs into being a story about family and creating new lives. The film is really entertaining, and I like it for a rewatch now and then.

Synopsis: Reese Witherspoon stars as Alice who is separated from her husband and starts over by moving back to LA. One night, she meets three filmmakers in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let them stay in her guest house temporarily. – via Prime Video

HOT PURSUIT

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara star in this ridiculous comedy. Witherspoon stars as a cop in this 2015 comedy who is assigned to protect the wife of a dangerous drug lord. Of course, the two are chased by all shades of bad guys and hilarity ensues.

Synopsis: A by-the-book policewoman is assigned to protect the wise-cracking wife of a witness who is about to testify against his drug lord boss but are forced to go on the run to hide from assassins and corrupt cops while traveling through Texas. – via Prime Video

JULIET NAKED

Synopsis: Annie breaks up with her longtime boyfriend Duncan — a teacher who’s obsessed with former 1990s rocker Tucker Crowe. She soon develops an unexpected bond with Tucker when he visits his pregnant daughter in London. – via Prime Video

JUST MY LUCK

This one has Lindsay Lohan post her star-making role in The Parent Trap as a young career woman who has the best of luck (literally) which is helping to raise her star in her office. Things get complicated when she realizes her luck abandons her and found a new person to help.

The film has some funny elements and is definitely a really good time.

Synopsis: Sexy Manhattanite Ashley (Lindsay Lohan) is known to many as the luckiest woman around. After a chance encounter with a down and out young man (Chris Pine), however, she realizes that she’s swapped her fortune for his. – via Prime Video

JUST WRITE

Another one I am 99% sure I saw years ago, this one is cute if I’m remembering right. It’s also a comedy that has stars (Jeremy Piven, Sherilyn Fenn) we don’t often see in lead roles like this so that makes it more fun, too.

Synopsis: A tour-bus driver (Jeremy Piven) meets his favorite actress (Sherilyn Fenn), who mistakes him for a famous scriptwriter and arranges to meet again. – via Prime Video

Emma Thompson teams with Pierce Bronson in this title about a divorced couple who end up losing their retirement funds and then decide to do something about it.

The film is a kind of fun, very light-hearted caper flick.

Synopsis: A bickering divorced couple reunites to salvage their retirement fund wiped out by a foreign financier – they plan to crash the rich man’s upcoming wedding and steal his bride’s gargantuan diamond ring! – via Prime Video

MY FIRST WEDDING

This one is another of those I’m pretty sure I watched. It’s goofy but has its moments and features 90s star Rachael Leigh Cook (from She’s all That) and is about a woman who is having conflicting thoughts about her upcoming marriage which is what leads her to confess to a priest who isn’t, well, really a priest.

Synopsis: With her wedding approaching, a beautiful bride-to-be (Rachael Leigh Cook) confesses her lustful thoughts about other men to a man she thinks is a priest – but he’s really the church carpenter, and falls deeply in love with her. – via Prime Video

MY MOM’S NEW BOYFRIEND

Meg Ryan teams up with the son of her frequent co-star (Tom Hanks) in this action comedy about a woman whose straight-laced FBI son, played by Colin Hanks, doesn’t like her new boyfriend and is in fact, investigating him!

Synopsis: When an uptight federal agent’s sexually liberated mother enters into an affair with a man suspected of being involved in an international art-theft ring, it’s up to the fresh-faced agent to keep an observant eye on the couple in question. – via Prime Video

THE OTHER ZOEY

Simple but cute, this title is a mistaken identity romance. It’s such easy watching if you want something lighthearted and sweet.

‘THE OTHER ZOEY’ IS REALLY DELIGHTFUL WINTER COMEDY. Review of the indie 2023 comedy with While You Were Sleeping similarities.

Synopsis: Zoey Miller (Josephine Langford), a super smart computer major uninterested in romantic love, has her life turned upside down when Zack (Drew Starkey), the school’s soccer star, gets amnesia and mistakes Zoey for his girlfriend. – via Prime Video

OVERBOARD, 1987

Synopsis: Wealthy amnesiac Goldie Hawn is duped into playing house with blue-collar Kurt Russell and his four unruly sons in this comedy. – via Prime Video

OVERBOARD, 2018

Leaves Prime Video in 5 days!

Anna Faris leads this remake and it’s fun. It has a fun concept and is entertaining. This one reverses the genders (from the 1987 version) and has Faris playing the working-class single mom (Russell played the working dad in the 80s film) and she’s great.

Synopsis: A spoiled, wealthy yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. – via Prime Video

PAPERBACK HERO

A comedy from the 90s, this one has Hugh Jackman in leading man role prior to his big-name fame.

In it, he plays a truck driver who has a bit of a secret (he’s a romance novelist!). Trouble is, when his publisher comes calling at the tiny place where he lives, she is looking for Ruby, the best friend whose name he uses.

Synopsis: Australian truck driver Jack has written a successful romance novel under the name of his best friend’s girlfriend – Ruby Vale. When a publisher arrives to sign up ‘Ruby’, complications arise. – via Prime Video

PENELOPE

This is a delightfully quirky film that plays with fairytale elements, and the Beauty and the Beast fable with Christina Ricci playing a woman who is the victim of a family curse that gives her a pig nose. The movie is funny and enjoyable and definitely makes me laugh.

Synopsis: Born with the snout of a pig, a young woman (Christina Ricci) believes the only way to break the curse is to marry one of her own kind. – via Prime Video

PERSONALLY YOURS

Synopsis: Susannah and Jesse Stanton divorced two years prior with three children. When Susannah starts dating a lawyer, the children decide to find someone for their father, sending a letter to a popular magazine called Alaskan Love. – via Prime Video

PICTURE THIS

‘PICTURE THIS’ PRIME VIDEO REVIEW: SNAPSHOT OF REUNION LOVE STORY. Simone Ashley stars in the new Prime Video rom-com.

This film is essentially a “rinse and repeat” of Prime’s Five Blind Dates, but it’s still a ton of fun. Simone Ashley leads the cast playing a busy careerwoman who learns one of her next five dates is her ideal match. This gets complicated when Hero Fiennes Tiffin (playing her ex!) returns.

Synopsis: In this heartfelt rom-com, struggling photographer Pia (Simone Ashley) receives a prediction: true love awaits in her next five dates. With her sister’s wedding looming and family playing matchmaker, her ex (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) reappears, throwing her love life into chaos.

THE REALITY of LOVE

From 2004, Bradley Cooper led this romance that involves an actor who needs career help and so he looks to reality TV where he hopes to find this, also part of the equation is the actor’s manager and Emma Caulfield’s reluctant reality TV participant.

Synopsis: A troubled actor attempts to revive his career by becoming the star of a reality show where contestants get the chance to be his bride – via Prime Video

SOMETHING from TIFFANY’S

Synopsis: Life – like love – is full of surprises and unexpected gifts. In the holiday romance Something From Tiffany’s, one woman’s life is forever changed by an engagement ring meant for someone else. – via Prime Video

SPACE CADET

Emma Roberts leads this quirky and funny comedy about a girl who has long dreamed of going to space. When she applies to a NASA program, her application is more than a little bit of a fib which is the only reason she gets a place. Still, using her wit, she manages to impress.

Synopsis: Tiffany “Rex” Simpson (Emma Roberts) has always dreamed of going to space, and her “doctored” application lands her in NASA’s ultra-competitive astronaut training program. In over her head, can this Florida girl rely on her quick wits, moxie and determination to get through training and into the cosmos before she blows her cover? – via Prime Video

THIS BEAUTIFUL FANTASTIC

I cannot remember all of the specifics of this one, but if memory serves, it’s a whimsical title that is sweet. Jessica Brown-Findlay stars as the lead with an impressive imagination.

Synopsis: A woman who longs to be an author meets an unlikely mentor. – via Prime Video

THIS LITTLE LOVE of MINE

Synopsis: Lawyer Laura returns to the small tropical island where she grew up to convince her childhood friend Chip to accept an inheritance and replace his wealthy grandfather at the head of a company. – via Prime Video

UNDERCOVER ANGEL

Synopsis: Harrison (Dean Winters) is a frustrated writer who gets asked by his ex to watch her 6-year-old daughter Jenny, and she decides to play cupid and help him win over the beautiful woman (Yasmine Bleeth) from his favorite coffee place. – via Prime Video

YOU’RE CORDINALLY INVITED

– Credit: Amazon Studios | Alamy –

This film is ridiculous in many ways, and based on ratings, it doesn’t seem terribly popular, but it did make me laugh.

The hilarity reaches goofy levels, but it’s all intentional and if you lean into the film based on this, you can enjoy it. Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon play the father and sister of a bride whose weddings are accidentally booked at the same venue on the same day. Hijinks and plenty of silly comes out of this.

Synopsis: When two weddings are accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue, each bridal party is challenged with preserving their family’s special moment. – via Prime Video
