Movie News! ‘Downton Abbey’ Returns
“We’ve been expecting you.” – Downton Abbey
And with these words, my fan girl heart is full of giddy anticipation and curiosity for the Downton Abbey movie aka the “event of the year.”
Back when the teaser trailer for this film dropped, and its subsequent photos, I started to draft this little fangirl ramble. Only then I never published it. But today. Oh my goodness, today, the powers that be released official character poster art, and I’m back to the place that I fell in love with: Downton Abbey. Though the image stills are now “old news,” I’m still going to share them, and though I wish there was more (just saying), I’m still happy to gush over these. [sc name=”Disclosure Notice”]
Downton Abbey, for those who are unfamiliar, is a British show that once aired on Masterpiece Theatre (in the US) for six series. During which many a British star guests, plus the series launched the career of other now famous actors (like Dan Stevens or Lily James). It follows the Crawley family post-Titanic tragedy, through WWI and eventually the Roaring 20s. The series is a British soap opera at its finest with many ups and downs, but at its heart, it’s an incredible series I wish would have continued. Focus Features invite us to return to this world this fall (as of now, September), only this time instead of a TV show, it will all unfold in glorious HD on the big screen. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Adapted from the hit TV series Downton Abbey that tells the story of the Crawley family, a wealthy owner of a large estate in the English countryside in the early 20th century.
Though a few cast members won’t return (like James’ Rose), the primary family is intact, and let me tell you, it all evokes all the feels, plus looks good while doing so.

I can’t wait for this! My mom, sister and I are already planning on seeing it. Plus, there’s a costume exhibit not too far from us that we want to check out this year!
That sounds like an amazing outing, Angela. Hope you all enjoy, and have so much fun. :)
Thank you for posting this, no matter how late; it’s great to get a reminder that this movie will be here sooner than we think!!
While I LOVE what we can see of Edith’s dress, my favourite character poster would actually have to be Mary’s… there’s just something so timelessly classic and elegant about it!
As for what I’m looking forward to most with this film, I’d have to say seeing what storylines they have up their sleeves for the new characters played by Tuppence Middleton and Stephen Campbell Moore (two actors I very much love), and what Branson’s journey will entail (fingers crossed some actual romance please!)
*high five* I’m with you. Mary’s is my favorite. The shot/angle/look is just… perfect. Or as you beautifully put it, timeless.
YES! A romance (good one!) for Branson is something I’m 100% in support of. Love him so much. :)
I”m so excited for this movie!
SAME!! Hope we both enjoy, Lauren.
