Waiting on Wednesday | Twenty-Fourth Edition

Hello, fellow book nerd friends! Happy (almost) Wednesday. Welcome.

Waiting on WednesdayIt’s Wednesday which means there’s another fun meme that bloggers enjoy taking part in. Or I know I do. But a new week and a new Wednesday brings with it yet more bookish talk. But are we going to complain about more bookworm fun?! I’d suppose not. Today’s feature is all about the books we’re “Waiting On” with Can’t Wait Wednesday. A meme Finding Wonderland occasionally takes part in.

Organized by the lovely Tressa of Wishful Endings, here’s another edition of Can’t Wait Wednesday.

Waiting on Wednesday Twenty-Fourth Edition

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here to spotlight and talk about the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released as well. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. (Find out more here.)

Like last Waiting on Wednesday feature, we have some upcoming contemporary fiction, because I’m kinda obsessed with the genre. Or so I’m learning.

Book one is by an author who I trust, and continue to trust. Her books are rom-com magic, and feature amazing meet-cutes! This new novel is, from all I can tell, going to be a complex story with more emotion than Melissa’s prior novels wrestled with. That said, I hope it still has Melissa’s signature humor and style because I know it’ll be a must-read of 2019!

My second choice is penned by an author I’m unfamiliar with and therefore have never read her work. BUT this book sounds really interesting, and its cover (and that title!) is too fun to pass by. It too sounds like a contemporary with some emotional backbone. As long as it ends well, I’ll be a-okay with reading this one.

NOW AND THEN AND ALWAYS

Author: Melissa Tagg | Publisher: Larkspur Press
Genre: Fiction; Contemporary | Publication Date: May 2019

A rom-com-obsessed romantic waiting for her perfect leading man learns that life doesn’t always go according to a script in this delightfully charming and funny novel.

Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing screenplays, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet-cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks—a man who’s sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat—her problems would disappear and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight.

When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn’t be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet-fail, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew. Her Tom Hanks can’t be an actor who’s leaving town in a matter of days . . . can he? – Amazon Goodreads

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill

Author: Abbi Waxman | Publisher: Berkley
Genre: Fiction; Contemporary | Publication Date: July 2019

Meet Nina Hill: A young woman supremely confident in her own…shell.

The only child of a single mother, Nina has her life just as she wants it: a job in a bookstore, a kick-butt trivia team, a world-class planner and a cat named Phil. If she sometimes suspects there might be more to life than reading, she just shrugs and picks up a new book.

When the father Nina never knew existed suddenly dies, leaving behind innumerable sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews, Nina is horrified. They all live close by! They’re all—or mostly all—excited to meet her! She’ll have to Speak. To. Strangers. It’s a disaster! And as if that wasn’t enough, Tom, her trivia nemesis, has turned out to be cute, funny, and deeply interested in getting to know her. Doesn’t he realize what a terrible idea that is?

Nina considers her options.
1. Completely change her name and appearance. (Too drastic, plus she likes her hair.)
2. Flee to a deserted island. (Hard pass, see: coffee).
3. Hide in a corner of her apartment and rock back and forth. (Already doing it.)

It’s time for Nina to come out of her comfortable shell, but she isn’t convinced real life could ever live up to fiction. It’s going to take a brand-new family, a persistent suitor, and the combined effects of ice cream and trivia to make her turn her own fresh page. – Amazon

I love a good contemporary romantic-comedy, so it’s a good day when there’s multiple potential favorites to share.

  1. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill sounds really fun! I like that the trivia contests play a role too, sounds like. I know some people who are REALLY into their trivia nights, and it sounds fun. :)
