‘Love in the Forecast’: Find Unexpected Romance

by

Giving its heroine an unusual career and taking its cues from nature, Love in the Forecast is cute. Really, is there any other kind of Hallmark movie? We follow Leah Waddell (Cindy Busby), an almost-meteorologist who’s eager to prove herself at work. When her latest date cancels, she makes a decision: no dating for a year. Instead she’ll work on her career and hope to impress the network’s meteorologist and finish her degree.

Things go as planned until she moves next door to Mark (Christopher Russell), a handsome farmer living in the city for a year to challenge himself in a new job. As both focus on their careers, time passes, and they become the best of friends, not realizing that maybe they also are about to find something more.

All of the usual sweetness is in Love in the Forecast, a cute little rom-com with the comfort of familiar faces. I only remember one other meteorologist career film, which is Cloudy with a Chance of Love, with favorite Michael Rady. This one is different, and while all of the same hallmarks of the network are intact, there’s one thing I really (really) appreciate about this, above and beyond what I usually like from these scripts.

This film, unlike most romances actually has a timeline rather than the “falls in love” in 2-wees trap. Though the story doesn’t specify how much time passes, a montage sequence shows the calendar flipping, plus the start is a one-year premise which means more time than most films passes. I love it.

Beyond this, you’ll see all of the same cuteness. Cindy Busby (Royal Hearts, Unleashing Mr. Darcy) is in a number of Hallmark films, and is a former regular on the Canadian show, Heartland. Christopher Russell will also be someone you recognize, most recently in Nature of Love. Those of you who enjoy a sweet little (clean) romantic-comedy will discover the forecast of this one is nothing but sunshine.

  1. I loved this Hallmark movie. It was adorable! I liked that the romance was based in a close friendship and the timeline of the film didn’t make it feel rushed. It’s one of my new favorites! Great review too!
