‘CHASING WATERFALLS’: PRETTY HALLMARK PORTRAIT OF LOVE & NATURE

Re-teaming a pair of former Hallmark stars is always a sign that the audience likes them together. Stands to reason then that whatever film they team again for (in this case, Chasing Waterfalls) will be a fun time.

Chasing Waterfalls (2021) Hallmark TV Film Review

When luck hands Amy Atwater (Cindy Busby) the chance to prove to her boss she can be an adventure photographer, she takes it. Amy loves to find the personality in any of her subjects, but her latest quest is to get the series of unseen waterfall photos for the travel publication she works for.

Booking into a nice resort while she goes looking for her locations, Amy meets Mark North (Christopher Russell) and his eleven-year-old daughter Kya (Cassidy Nugent). Mark happens to be a tour guide at the place Amy is staying. Desperately directionally challenged, Amy finds that she in in need of a tour guide, one who also happens to know the location of the most special waterfalls.

Last year Cindy Busby (from Heartland) and Christopher Russell co-starred in the film Love in the Forecast. Like it, this one relies heavily on nature and some of its rare beauties. Not sure if it’s coincidence or not, but both times Russell’s character is very much in his conversation about nature. It’s always fun to see cast-mates reunite and the same is true of these two. One flaw in the characters would be the addition of Mark’s daughter. Not because she isn’t a good character, more because sometimes it feels like she’s forgotten.

Also returning is direct Christie Will Wolfe, a woman who has directed these two before, and many other Hallmark titles. The director and the production team show off some lovely scenery and the entire film has a relaxed feeling as a result. There’s also some really sweet moments including a cute little thread between Amy and Kya. There is one of my biggest pet peeves used in this film, but I simply cannot be mad with this much charm. Same conclusion as always; if you enjoy these wholesome kind of romances, then Chasing Waterfalls is another cute addition.
