I’m not a sports kind of girl. I used to watch figure skating as a girl, would suffer (a bit dramatic) through portions of football games, and of course, do watch some Olympics. But beyond that, I’m just not into sports. That said, there are some sporting movies that I think are really, quite wonderful movies or TV series. Today, I’m sharing 15 feel-good football movies to watch, some of which tend to also be more of a rom-com. Because, duh.
LIST | MORE CLEAN AND WHOLESOME ROMANCE MOVIES, PART 2
Below you’ll find period drama football, comedic football, romantic football, and is the favorite football genre, inspired. Needless to say, there’s a variety, and I hope you find something new (or maybe just an old favorite) to sit down and enjoy. If the “real deal” isn’t your thing, but you like stories that take the game and make it more, well then, you may find something on this list of interest.

1: The Blind Side

Inspiring, Sandra Bullock leads a talented cast in this true story. You can digitally purchase The Blind Side on Amazon Video
2: The English Game (Netflix Series)
Set in England, this one is different than most on this list (namely because it’s the English version of the game), but it’s really very good, and I simply cannot let this list be “complete” without adding this. It’s from a script by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), and though very different than what I’ve seen from him, it’s fantastic. You can stream The English Game on Netflix
3: Friday Night Lights (TV Show)

I’ve actually only seen one (or maybe two?) episodes of this show… and concluded, it’s just not for me. I don’t care for the almost documentary style, and just can’t get into it. That said, I know a LOT of people find this a nostalgic comfort to enjoy. You can digitally purchase Friday Night Lights on Amazon Video
4: The Game Plan

One of those “too cute for its own good” films, this Disney title has Dwayne Johnson as a pro football player who ends up getting the surprise of his life a pint-sized daughter shows up at his door. You can digitally purchase The Game Plan on Amazon Video
5: Game Time: Tackling the Past
This is one of those “Walmart” movies that used to air on the weekends. It’s actually, from my memory, one of the better ones. Ryan McPartlin stars as a football player who returns home after his father suffers a health issue. You can purchase ‘Tackling the Past’ on DVD
6: Invincible
Like many of these are, this is based on the true story of a 30-year-old bartender who overcomes “long odds” to play pro football. You can digitally purchase Invincible on Amazon Video
7: Leatherheads

This is a 1930s quirky comedy featuring George Clooney in something of an unusual role. Don’t remember much else about this one (it’s about the inception of American football), but I am pretty sure the laughs are there. You can digitally purchase Leatherheads on Amazon Video
8: Love on the Sidelines

And here’s one that is, simply put, all kinds of CUTE! I love this one so much. It’s about a woman who knows nothing about football but ends up working as a personal assistant to a football player sidelined from an injury. Check for encore showings on Hallmark or you can digitally purchase Love on the Sidelines on Amazon Video
9: Necessary Roughness (TV Show)
This USA Network show is HILARIOUS! I really wish it’d been on the air longer because it’s one of those easy, feel-good watching that makes you happy. The plot is about a psychotherapist who is hired to be the therapist for a popular football team. You can digitally purchase Necessary Roughness on Amazon Video
10: Radio

It’s been years since I saw Radio. I don’t remember much about it to be honest, but know it’s a universally liked sports film. You can digitally purchase Radio on Amazon Video
11: Run the Race
Run the Race is a bittersweet family inspirational drama that takes a dramatic turn in the end. It’s still got an uplifting story in the end, but that doesn’t mean you don’t shed some tears during the film. You can digitally purchase Run the Race on Amazon Video
12: SnowComing
This title is fun and cute like anything from Hallmark is. I don’t like it as well as Love on the Sidelines, but still, it’s fun. Check for encore showings on Hallmark or you can digitally purchase SnowComing on Amazon Video
13: Trouble Along the Way
I haven’t watched this one, but it amuses me to no end to think of John Wayne in a film that is NOT a western. In this, he plays a football coach and… wait for it, a single father. Needless to say, seeing Wayne is a kind of rom-com promises to be a good time. You can digitally purchase Trouble Along the Way on Amazon Video
14: We Are Marshall

Based on (another!) true story, this one follows a team that loses nearly its entire roster in a plane crash. The plot follows a coach who helps to put together a new team with the remaining members of the team. You can digitally purchase We Are Marshall on Amazon Video
15: When the Game Stands Tall
This one seems quite familiar, but honestly, I have no idea if I’ve seen it. Still, like many on this list, it sounds like an inspiring tale of an unknown team who becomes a winning football team. You can digitally purchase When the Game Stands Tall on Amazon Video

I love the theme of this list as well as many of your picks, Love on the Sidelines (which always puts me in mind of Becky Wade’s Her One & Only for some reason!), and The Blind Side in particular. The primary one that comes to mind for me when thinking about football films, however, is definitely the brilliant, genuinely hilarious, heart-warming, and inspiring Facing the Giants. 23 Blast which has Alexa PenaVega in a co-starring role is also pretty good!
Thanks, Kirsty! Glad to know. Aww, that’s a fun comparison (“Love on the Sidelines” and “Her One & Only,” I may have to use that with a shout-out to you!). I haven’t seen “The Blind Side is SO long, but it’s a great film. Ooo! I didn’t know or remember Alexa was in “23 Blast.” I’ve seen the film around, but haven’t watched it. Guess I’ll have to. One of these days. ;)
