‘Snowkissed’: A Winter Romance to Stay in With!

The final “New Year New Movies” title, Snowkissed is another cute romance, and also a lovely way to end the line-up. Jen Lilley returns to the network as Kate, a writer whose latest assignment requires she travel… all the way to Canada! Needless to say, this play-it-routine girl is NOT happy. She flips out over the idea of having to travel in a way that will require she pack a suitcase. But going with her is her best friend and world-traveler photographer, Jane. Once in Canada, Kate prepares to write her latest story, which is an interview with the author of one of her most favorite books.

When a snafu changes her plans, Kate and Jane become the test subjects in the planned guided tour ventures of their B&B’s owner. Despite his big plans, Noah (Chris McNally) needs some help smoothing out his “script” for the tour stops. Fortunately, Kate happens to be a writer but as they didn’t get off on the right foot, asking for her help may not be so easy.

Like anything you’ll find on this network, Snowkissed (can we talk about this cute title??) is more of the ordinary comfort you love to see. Last seen in USS Christmas, Lilley returns as leading lady alongside When Calls the Heart favorite Chris McNally. I like them together and thought their scenes, like anything, are super sweet and cute. This then leads into some pros about this title.

Most of the films in this subgenre don’t allow the couple to part without drama and/or to admit there’s something there. This one doesn’t do the whole dramatic-I-don’t-know-you-anymore scene, and I am forever and always grateful for the lack of this. With exception to maybe three films, I never find these scenes to be authentic and am so glad this one (aka its writers) has the foresight to exclude that.

Sweet and charming, and with plenty of snow-y scenes, this is fun. There’s the same cozy feel as any of its winter movie peers. Sometimes this is what a Friday night is all about.
