15 COLORFUL SUMMERTIME MOVIES TO WATCH AND ENJOY!

I’m not entirely sure why I find it necessary to, every year curate seasonal list like this. When I first made plans to write a summer movie list, I was sure my first was back in 2019. But, oh no, it was just 2020. Needless to say, given very little time for new titles to crop up, it was something of a challenge to find some different (from 2020’s list) summer movies to watch and enjoy. But we did first a few, and so, we persist.

LIST | 12 OF THE MEMORABLE & PRETTY MOVIE WEDDING SCENES

Hopefully, on this list, there’s a variety, even with those that I’ve used (is it too much?) for multiple other lists! There’s romantic-comedies and moody teen dramas. Plus, I added some that are all about the nostalgia feels. Hopefully, there’s a little something for everyone in this collection, and if you find there’s a title that I neglected as a BIG oversight, check out our 2020 list! It may make an appearance there.

SUMMER MOVIES TO WATCH AND ENJOY

1: 50 FIRST DATES

Had to add this one because for one thing I need a re-watch, and secondly, it has a Hawaiian setting which I’m pretty sure automatically qualifies this for summer viewership. It tells the story of a man who dates a woman with memory loss, and so, every day he woos her anew. (PG-13 for sexuality and profanity)

2: ALOHA

Pretty sure I’ve had this one on multiple lists. But with its “aloha” title, I couldn’t resist adding it. This is a kind of quirky film with Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone. (PG-13 for profanity and sexuality) summer movies to watch and enjoy

3: CAMP ROCK

Pretty sure much of this list is going to be all about nostalgic feels. Tell me I’m not alone in having watched this teen-bop of a Disney Channel film!? (TV-G)

4: ENDLESS LOVE

If you like moodier dramedies (complete with angst!), this re-make of the 80s film is definitely one of them. It’s a kind of Romeo and Juliet story with Alex Pettyfer and Gabrielle Wilde. (PG-13 for sexual content)

5: FINDING ‘OHANA

Haven’t seen this one form Netflix, but it sounds fun! Follows two siblings who, through a journal, go on an unexpected journey. (PG) Find on Netflix

6: FOOL’S GOLD

Pretty sure next to no one liked this film back when it was in theaters. It re-pairs Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, this time as would-be treasure hunters. It’s silly (in places) but also good for a chill popcorn flick. And they say smiling and laughter is GOOD for our health. (PG-13)

7: IT TAKES TWO

This is a WAY (WAY) back throwback, but it has a camp setting again and so it feels appropriate. For my generation, this was kind of like the OG Parent Trap story, since I didn’t grow up on the 80s version, but rather the 1998 adaptation with Lindsay Lohan. (PG)

8: JUST GO WITH IT

This one isn’t a favorite in the way a romantic comedy like Never Been Kissed is, but it had its charms. Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler play employee and boss who find themselves pretending to be married in order to impress a girl Sandler is dating. (PG-13 for sexual content, crude humor and profanity) summer movies to watch and enjoy

9: THE LAST SUMMER (NETFLIX)

I enjoyed this one from Netflix! Of course, it’s a silly and teen angst-y, but I think it’s also fun. (TV-14)  Find on Netflix

10: THE MAP OF TINY PERFECT THINGS

Haven’t seen this one, but it looks cute and summer-y. It follows two teens who continue to re-live the same day. (PG-13)

11: MURDER MYSTERY (NETFLIX)

Aniston and Sandler re-pair again in this silly (way more than I anticipated!) mystery about a married couple who find themselves operating as amateur sleuths. (TV-14 for sexual humor, some violence) Find on Netflix

12: THE PARENT TRAP

Like It Takes Two, we’re throwing it back with this one! But given the whole summer camp set up, it seems like a great add on. (PG)

13: THE OUTCASTS

Not sure why I associate this one with a summer-time type title, but for some reason I do. (PG-13) summer movies to watch and enjoy

14: SLEEPOVER

If you like nostalgic movies that remind you of your growing up, revisiting this one could be fun! I saw it for the first time months ago, and while it’s not something I’ll re-watch, it’s a cute little flick that fun and also more entertaining to see one of the early roles of Alexa Vega. (PG)

15: SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME

This one just screams “summer adventure” with its overseas travel and a bit of a nudge in the Peter and MJ romance. (PG-13)

BONUS! ONE CRAZY SUMMER

Courtney of The Green Mockingbird suggested this film, though it’s one that I’d never heard of! It’s from 1986 and features a young Demi Moore and John Cusack in a film about an aspiring cartoonist. Sounds like it could be fun, right? (PG)

What about all of you! What movies “scream” summer time to you? Have you seen any of these summer movies to watch and enjoy? Did you like or dislike them? What movies do you enjoy most during this time of year? Comment all of your thoughts! I love to chat.

  1. These are such fun lists :-)

Hmm. The original 1961 version of The Parent Trap is definitely a summertime movie to me. Also Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation, since it’s all about a family on summer vacation. I think Letters to Juliet has a summery vibe, and so does French Kiss. Oh, Independence Day is a summer movie!

    1. Despite its popularity I’ve never seen ‘Independence Day’! Sometime I should. Also never watched ‘French Kiss’ either. I feel like a lot of the older movies have that summer-time vibe, but there’s so many I haven’t seen or have forgotten about. Thanks so much for reading through and sharing your favorites, Rachel!! Always great to chat with you.
