A SHORT & FUN SUMMER MOVIES LIST YOU MAY WANT TO SEE
Summer is officially here and post its arrival, we have a kind of unofficial, official tradition here. That is to share some of the summer movies to watch. Why? Mostly because it’s fun, but also, just because it gives us an opportunity to enjoy some really pretty scenery.
LIST | A FUN SUMMER PLAYLIST TO LISTEN TO + FIND ON SPOTIFY
We have lists of summer films from 2020, as well as, of course, 2021, but as usual, I’m going to strive to find new titles. Not sure how this will go down, but we’ll see. I’m also going to try not to share Hallmark films because honestly, we talk about those a lot independently and I may have plans for a revival of a different Hallmark feature later this summer. Until then, we have some other titles to highlight, and you get to tell me, which you’ve seen. Let’s do this.

THE ADAM PROJECT
Feels as though I put this one every list I’ve curated lately. From movies to watch with mom, to the similar list for dad’s, this one just keeps popping up. But ultimately, The Adam Project is a super fun summer popcorn flick featuring Ryan Reynolds as a man who returns to the past in order to protect the future. Again… super fun. (TV-14) Find on Netflix
GNOMEO AND JULIET
If you have kids, or you just like watching something animated now and then, Gnomeo and Juliet is super summer-y with its mostly outdoor setting and really green backdrops. It follows some feisty garden gnomes who unbeknownst to their owners, come alive when they’re away. (PG)
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES
Only just re-watched this and honestly, it’s quite funny. Features Gal Gadot, Jon Hamm and Isla Fisher in a film about neighbors who become suspicious that their new neighbor’s seem a little off. The film also takes place during the summer, so if you enjoy a silly flick with some things that blow up, you may enjoy this. (PG-13)
THE LOST CITY
The movie EVERYONE was talking about, I finally saw this, and honestly… it’s just okay (for me). I thought it was fun, but not the level of gushing (but I know one specific reason why I felt this way). That said, it’s VERY summer like because of its setting and is one of those fun summer-y adventures. (PG-13) summer movies to watch
LOVE, LOST AND FOUND
If you like wholesome romance, you may enjoy this one. It tells the story of a woman too busy running a company to recognize that maybe her personal life is suffering. (TV-PG)
A MIDSUMMER’S HAWAIIAN DREAM
I’ve seen this one pop up a LOT during browsing, but haven’t yet seen it. Mostly it catches my eye because it features Amy Carlson, the actress who played Linda Reagan on Blue Bloods. (Plus it also has Brent Bailey from Emma Approved.) Beyond this, I know pretty much nothing about this one. But it could be cute. (PG-13)
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
If you like Shakespeare, this may be one to watch. I’ve never been able to fully immerse myself in any of his adaptations, pretty sure it’s the language, but I know lots of people love it. I think I saw this 1999 period drama years ago, but I cannot remember.

Seems like this one has a lot of summer-time scenery too. Another I cannot remember well, but do know this William Shakespeare adaptation follows a case of making true love be the match with an all-star cast including Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, and Keanu Reeves among others. (PG-13) summer movies to watch
THE OTHER WOMAN
Not a summer film per se, but there is a sequence spent at a beach house, and later a trip to an island, so it feels kind of summer appropriate, plus it’s a funny movie to watch with a sister or mom or whoever you have movie nights with. The film follows a woman who discovers she’s not exactly in an exclusive relationship. (PG-13)
OVERBOARD
I actually prefer the more recent remake of this film, which is from 2018 and features Anna Faris. The plot is about a woman working in the service industry and the little thanks she gets. But then fate hands her an opportunity and she takes it, hoping to get back at someone who doesn’t appreciate what she does. (PG-13)
RIP TIDE
Cannot remember the season this one is set in, but it’s an Australian film about a model searching for something beyond the surface beauty façade her life consists of. It’s actually a really good little dramedy even if its focus is on the younger set. (PG)
SAHARA
Re-watched this recently and it feels super summer-y and adventurous if you like that kind of thing. Honestly, I like this better than The Lost City. But that’s just another of my unpopular opinions. Follows a doctor with a world organization who discovers a dangerous disease overseas, and teaming up with a treasure hunter, the pair uncover unexpected discoveries! (PG-13) summer movies to watch
THIS LITTLE LOVE OF MINE
A woman travels for business back to her hometown where she must try to convince the grandson of a company’s owner that a takeover will benefit everyone. The film is one that was on Netflix, and is really, just cute and wholesome. (G) Find on Netflix
A WEEK AWAY
This is one of those Netflix films that dropped a couple of years ago. I haven’t seen it, but did watch a few minutes of it the other day. Honestly? It seems like it’ll be cute (about a troubled teen in foster care who is, quite to his surprise, shipped off to a summer Bible camp), but also kind of tough for me to watch. I just cannot fully embrace musicals, and with exception to Mamma Mia! or The Sound of Music, they just aren’t my cup of tea. Bailee Madison stars in this, and back at its release, she gushed about what a dream it was to be able to star in something with music, one of her other passions. The one thing that is cute, the opening credits and feels more modern for those who have nostalgia for Camp Rock or High School Musical. (PG) Find on Netflix
