It’s officially the season of cozy sweaters, PSL, and beautiful foliage. That’s right, it’s a new season of autumn and all of the beauty and traditions that come with it. To pair with it and your PSL latte, let’s have a little look at some of the perfect fall movies to enjoy. Or at least to offer some you might enjoy.

LIST | FIVE REASONS WHY I DO (& DON’T) LIKE ‘MISS SCARLET & THE DUKE’

After some movie research and just some of my own personal choices, let’s take a closer look at some of the ideal movies to enjoy during this fall season. Let’s take look and talk about any of the titles you may enjoy.

Notes: I’m going to exclude Hallmark films from this list because I curate separate lists for them all the time. You can see my “rankings” of their ‘Fall Harvest’ titles from years past here. Also some films excluded include titles that I have on my list of “Non-Spooky” movies (2019) or if you’re looking for movies that aren’t on this list, you can find our 2020 list which is still relevant.

PERFECT FALL MOVIES TO ENJOY

1: ANNE OF AVONLEA

This is a pretty obvious choice, but I couldn’t not include this 80s classic because it’s Anne of Green Gables and there is some beautiful autumn scenery. However, there’s additionally beautiful spring and winter scenes, too.

2: GAME PLAN

Dwayne Johnson plays a football star in this film about a man who learns he’s a dad.

3: HOMETOWN LEGEND

Lacey Chabert co-stars in this film about a football team that tries to bring pride to a hometown. It’s not one I’ve seen yet, but it seems like it’d be one of those inspiring kind of movies.

4: LEGALLY BLONDE

I saw this one get a mention online, and it’s true that while we don’t typically think of Legally Blonde as an “autumn,” but it does feature some pretty stunning scenery.

5: THE LOST HUSBAND

This slower moving drama just seems to have the “vibe” of autumn. Most of the people who I saw watching this at its release didn’t like it, but I’m proudly in the minority.

6: MONA LISA SMILE

A period drama about women who study at Wellesley College on the East Coast. The cast includes Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ginnifer Goodwin and Julia Roberts.

7: MYSTIC PIZZA

Julia Roberts stars in this 90s dramedy about two sisters and their best friend as they come to terms with growing up and maybe love in a small eastern town. (R for language, including 3-6 f-words, sexual content and some sexual crudities.)

8: SAVED BY GRACE

This emotional drama follows a man with many secrets in his past. Life changes when he meets a mysterious woman in a series of unusual encounters.

9: SCHOOL OF ROCK

This is a hilarious older comedy about Jack Black’s character looking for life direction, which he finds in a group of mismatched students.

10: THE SPECTACULAR NOW

I started watching this one a while back and never did finish it. Not surprising since I’m not a viewer who likes R-rated films. But at the heart, this has a good story and features Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller. (R for language, sexual content.)

11: STARS FELL ON ALABAMA

This little indie romantic-comedy is sweet but not uniquely remarkable.

12: TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE

I’ve probably already added this one to a seasonal list (or two), but this original film just feels autumn-y. Plus, the story of Lara Jean Covey is just so sweet. Find streaming on Netflix

13: AN UNFINISHED LIFE

Jennifer Lopez stars in this film, likely one of her lesser known roles, as a woman running from abuse. It’s slow-moving, but it’s also a solid drama story.

14: A WALK IN THE CLOUDS

Cannot remember the season of this one, but the light of the production or just “feel” of it seems autumn-like. Follows a couple who pretends to be married.

15: WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS
‘WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS’: AN EMOTIONAL & ABSORBED ADAPTATION. A review of the 2020 drama with Charlie Plummer. All text is © Rissi JC PHOTO: LIONSGATE

This one is a dramedy that feels like autumn again. It follows a teen boy struggling with voices in his head and the inability to cope without medication that alters him in other ways.

Your turn! Which movies do you count as perfect fall movies to enjoy during the cozy season of autumn? Have you seen any of these? Which of these do you like (or not) of these I mention? Comment away.
