10+ UNDERRATED MOVIES YOU MAY FIND WORTH SEEING

When it comes to the movies, I’m one who enjoys select, what we coin “blockbuster” movies, but sometimes a quieter film is in the deck. With that in mind, I did want to take a closer look at if there’s some more underrated movies worth seeing. While lists like this are of course subjective, I still try hard to put out some variety so there’s a little something for any type of moviegoer.

Below we have rom-coms (because you guys know I love them); British period drama; a thriller; and a Biblical re-telling that, I think, is actually pretty good. Like we say, there’s a little something for everyone. At least, this is always the primary goal. Let’s take a look, and tell me which ones YOU are or would be most curious to see!

UNDERRATED MOVIES WORTH SEEING

1: THE BACHELOR

Before becoming the mysterious G on CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles, Chris O’Donnell had a leading man role in a rom-com. The Bachelor is an on-the-eve of 2000 release that features Chris as a man who is about to inherit a fortune only to find a catch in the fortune – he must marry in order to receive everything!

2: BEAUTIFUL

Honestly, back years ago when I saw this, I thought I didn’t like it. However I just re-watched it, and it’s actually quite good. Minnie Driver plays a self absorbed pageant contestant who keeps secrets and ignores the most important thing in her film.

3: CARRIE PILBY

Pretty sure I’ve only seen this one once. Cannot remember all the details, but do recall liking it at first blush. Plus I just really loved seeing the eldest Pevensie child (from Chronicles of Narnia) in a grown up role.

4: FOOLS RUSH IN

A 90s romantic comedy that I rarely, if ever, see mentioned. It won’t be a “fit” for everyone because of the pregnancy trope, but I think it’s quite cute. No one makes rom-coms that “sparkle” like they did in this era. I miss it.

5: GIFTED

Captain America himself stars in this film about a single man trying to raise his whip-smart niece in a way his sister would want – with normalcy. A fight ensues over her custody in an emotional, but really good film.

6: LADIES IN BLACK

An Australian period drama, this film is lovely. Perhaps a little slow-moving, but still wonderful and entertaining to see.

7: LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT

Angelina Jolie stars in this dramedy. I’m not the biggest fan of the megastar, but do think the messages of this film are solid. Plus, when I hear about Jolie’s roles, this one doesn’t seem to come up so it’s more underrated.

8: LOVE SARAH

Bittersweet, the film opens with a loss, only to then tell a story of healing and honoring a loved one.

9: THE MAKING OF A LADY

A British mystery, this adaptation builds to a kind of crescendo that allows its settings to help in crafting the mystery. Based on a story by Frances Hodgson Burnet, this one really did impress me first time I saw it, and I’m wanting to re-watch it just thinking about it.

10: NOT SINCE YOU

A romantic drama, this is something I finally watched on a whim after seeing it for months in my searches. Pleasantly, I’m surprised by how good this is. What I like best is that it goes a direction I didn’t expect, and takes the “harder” path which I appreciate.

11: PATRICK

Another one that takes me by surprise, I expected to see a talking dog, but thankfully this one doesn’t go that route! Instead it’s a darling little comedy that tells a charming story. underrated movies

12: RIP TIDE

Fun story about a girl who is a model, but has dreams for a different lifestyle.

13: THE SECRET: DARE TO DREAM

Based on the popular non-fiction film, this one is pretty good. There’s lots of interesting things that script says, and the characters are really likable… plus I like that it ends a bit more open ended. Seems more honest for this story.

14: SHUT IN

The first original from Daily Wire Entertainment, this thriller is one of the best films I’ve seen to bring in Christian themes. I don’t think the company tags it as “Christian,” but there is symbolism and it does the best job I’ve seen in a while. Plus, the film has the ability to terrify not just its heroine, but us since we’re trapped alongside her. Definitely lots of, like I said, symbolism. Find Shut In exclusively on Daily Wire

15: STONEHAERST ASYLUM

A little more Gothic than most of these, this one is interesting. Not one I’m likely to watch again and again, but interesting just the same. Plus it features Kate Beckinsale who is no stranger to period drama. underrated movies

16: TRUST FUND

Though there’s production flaws, Trust Fund really is quite sweet. It’s a Biblical re-telling of the Prodigal Son, only this time, the siblings are girls.

17: WHAT IF

Not really sure this one is underrated since I think there are many who have seen it. That said, I don’t really see this one talked of, so I’m adding this Daniel Radcliffe dramedy. Its way cuter than I expected, and I love when a movie surprises.

What films would you put in the underrated movies worth seeing list? Do you have a list? Have you seen any of these? Would you see any of these? Comment ALL the comments! Let’s chat.
