GOLDEN GLOBES 2023: A NIGHT OF FABULOUS AND FAUX PAS FASHION

Every now and then, it’s fun to break from the norm and publish something a bit unusual for the norm content here. Today is one such day. On a whim, when I realized, thanks to social media, that last night was an award show, I decided to make today a day of Golden Globes 2023 fashion, a post where we look at some of the fashions from the glitzy night.

Like always, I’m not into award shows. There were a few years where I sarcastically watched the Oscars, but I haven’t for several now and a handful of years when I would watch the CMA Awards as well. Again, there’s another one I haven’t seen in several years ago. Now anytime I look at anything about an award show it’s to see what won or I see the fashions on social media.

All that said, most the time I find the fashion pretty cringe and it makes me question the direction of what’s considered fashion forward. Plus, as I have said before, it’s rough when the dudes seem to look better than the ladies. This is why today we’re going to recap some of the trends the stars brought to the red carpet last night. Let’s see what the most (supposedly) fashion forward names were wearing to one of entertainment’s biggest nights.

Also are we thinking the “wet” look is a yay or a nay? I’m sure not loving it.

BOWS AND THINGS

One trend I saw a few gowns sporting was big sleeves, or bow like ordeals that meant the gown was overflowing with fabric. I don’t hate Selena Gomez’s ensemble with this trend, but on that same “look,” I cannot with Lily James’ red number!

CLASSIC ELEGANCE

I really didn’t see many kind of classic and simple looks. However, though I’m not totally sure about the red, Monica Barbaro gown is pretty and for  most, likely plain, but I like the classic look.

MIRRORBALL

One of the looks or vibes of the night was a kind of mirrorball look. Stars like Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Hudson went for this look. While Chastain’s ensemble, to me, doesn’t work and is more faux pas than fabulous, Hudson’s gold ensemble is more of a win and Angela Bassett’s silver mermaid style is more win too.

RUFFLES AND TEXTURES

Ok, here’s the thing. I don’t detest all of these, but despite her pale pink number being on best dressed lists, I’m also not a gushing fan of Margot Robbie’s look. Still, maybe she’s channeling her Barbie look, and can we fault her for rocking a pretty in pink? I cannot. Daisy Edgar-Jones black “v” number is a BIG NO!, and despite her nude look being gushed over, I also cannot with Jenna Ortega’s ensemble.

  1. I don’t really watch any awards shows anymore, but the fashions can be fun. I think I gravitate towards the classic looks. I like simpler, timeless looks. Although, I actually do like Lily James’ dress! The cut-outs are a little strange, but I like the volume.

    1. I mostly like Lily’s too, Angela though I’m not sure how I feel about the red, but overall, it’s pretty. Like you I’m more for the classic looks and while many think that somehow translates to wearing a “garbage bag” or some such thing, I’ve seen many that are gorgeous, timeless or “sexy” depending on the dress. :)
