Seeing as its Friday, we are BACK at it with another news-y round up. At least the kind that tends to be happier (or sillier) than normal anyway! Let’s dive in, shall we? pop culture news ninety-two

There’s some “big” casting news and some “drama” about why one actress (yes, I still use two terms) is not the lead in a hotly anticipated summer flick. Beyond this, who knows what else we may find, but hopefully it’s all fun things!
POP CULTURE NEWS NINETY-TWO
BARBIE AND THE FEMINIST AGENDA
In news about why an actress didn’t take on the iconic role of Barbie in the upcoming July film, Amy Schumer has things to say. This is news that was making the rounds a bit ago, but I recently saw it again on Instagram this week. So Schumer was an early (as in 2016 when Sony bought the rights; Warner Brothers later acquired them) in the running name to play the iconic Mattel character. A year later, she said the following to Variety, “Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
However, now she’s coming out and saying that she passed on the role because of “creative differences” suggesting when pressed that Sony didn’t want to make it how she wanted with the idea that the film didn’t have enough of a feminist angle. Now she says it looks “cool” and very “feminist.” Honestly, I find this tough to believe, even back to an early version. From all that I’ve read or seen about this film, it seems like it’ll have plenty of the strong feminist vibes even with all the frills and pink. Could be I’d be shocked, but I doubt there wasn’t “enough” feminist storytelling. Also, tell me (since I’m still undecided), do I need to go see this one?
BIG DC COMICS CASTING MOVE
Following the back and forth of Henry Cavill not knowing if he’d be back as Superman under DC Comics new leadership to being back and then not returning, the studio has found its new Superman and Lois Lane in their upcoming (as in 2025) Superman: Legacy film. The cast will start with David Corenswet (and BTW, he’ll also appear in the hotly anticipated 2024 sequel, Twisters) and Rachel Brosnahan. This film is said to “spearhead” a new universe for DC Comics.
OTHER STORIES from the WEEK
If you liked the 90s TV show Party of Five, you may be glad to know that two of its co-stars will be reuniting in a 2023 Christmas movie. Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf will play siblings in the Hallmark film A Merry Scottish Christmas. Chabert says she and Wolf always wanted to work on a project again, going on later to say “When we first read this story about these siblings at a crossroads, we both knew it was the perfect opportunity.” What do you think? Will you watch?
Following a mere one season after its move from CBS to NBC, the re-boot of Magnum P.I. has been cancelled. I haven’t even seen part one of season five (part two has yet to air, but will) yet, and I’m sad. This is one of those easy watching, makes you happy type shows and we have so few of those that I miss when the ones we do have end.
After our recent mention, it looks like Ryan Seacrest will indeed succeed Pat Sajak as host of Wheel of Fortune.
Have you seen these stories? Did any make you mad? Sad? Happy? Which ones did we miss and SHOULD have included? What do you think of that big Superman casting? Comment everything you have to talk about below. Let’s talk!
