POP CULTURE NEWS ONE HUNDRED and TWENTY-ONE

DISNEY CHANNEL SHOW SEQUELS AND SECRETS

If you have nostalgia for Disney Channel shows, these two stories may interest you.

The first is that the popular (from 2012 – 2017) Wizards of Waverly Place is getting a sequel. The original series featured Selena Gomez, who will now be a producer on the sequel titled Wizards. She will also be a guest star in the first episode though it will be her on screen brother, David Henrie, who will feature in the show as the story follows his family. Will you watch this?

In other Disney news, this time in could-have-been details, a writer on the now kaput Lizzie McGuire reboot spills details. This time about Lizzie it’s the detail that Gordo wouldn’t have been her love (at least not in the first two episodes!). Instead, the writer, Jonathan Hurwitz, says Lizzie would have been in touch with a former crush, Ethan, and the third episode would open with her lying in bed in his shirt. Likely, this was a big thing as to why the show didn’t continue. Hilary Duff, the titular star, had choice words for Disney at the time. I do agree with her that Disney should let Lizzie grow up as her character was a 30-something and would be different than original show Lizzie. However, I think there is a way you can create an adult show and keep things Disney “light.” Some fans appreciate that over adding smut just because a character is an adult.

LAST THINGS

On January 25th you will be able to stream Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning with Paramount+. Also the film will drop its “part one” subtitle.

Though riddled with controversy, the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us is back in production with a June release. The news drop this week is more behind the scenes photos with Blake Lively, and the addition of Isabela Ferrer and Alex Neustaedter cast as a young Lily (whom Lively plays) and Atlas respectively. Brandon Sklenar will play Atlas to Lively’s Lily counterpart.

Those who are giddy about the second season of The Way Home, will have very little time to wait. The Hallmark show drops on Sunday night, and we have a little What We Know preview if you want to drop over to share your theories or hopes!

If you have been a long time fan of Criminal Minds, according to recurring guest star Josh Stewart, he won’t be back. Steward plays Will, fellow cop and husband of A.J. Cook’s character JJ. The actor featured in multiple of the shows revival in Criminal Minds: Evolution, but according to his statement on X (aka Twitter), he won’t be back for season two. According to the article, network reps didn’t respond to a request for comment. One fan comment’s, on a story about this, “Please not another death. I mean…seriously, does every single character have to lose a love interest/spouse. […] It’s also lazy writing.” I think this is a pretty universal feeling and I know I have had similar thoughts too about TV shows.

Let’s hear what you have to say. Did you see any of these through the week? Which ones did you enjoy? Which ones annoy you? Comment all of the thoughts you have below.

    1. Bummer! I haven’t watched Criminal Minds in a while, but my memory is that I liked them well enough. I saw someone say that this may open doors for another character’s home life, so maybe someone else will be highlighted. :)
