TV NEWS | UPTV JANUARY 2024 SCHEDULE: FOUR NEW PREMIERE MOVIES TO ENJOY

Each week we have to search for those stories, and this time of year, it seems difficult to find anything work mentioning. Likely because it’s full of cheer and the “big stories” are kept under wraps because if there’s no one to pay attention, there’s no drama, right? We’ll still see what we can find and will hopefully discover a few stories worth a mention.

If you’re a fan of period drama, Michelle Dockery, who probably made her name while starring in Downton Abbey as the prickly Lady Mary Crawley will co-star with Topher Grace in Flight Risk. The film will also feature Mark Wahlberg. The story is said to be about an air marshal who is transporting a criminal. Sounds similar to a film Dockery starred in with Liam Neeson, called Non-Stop.

If you saw, or even if you didn’t, Barbie this past summer, you probably remember the speech about women from America Ferrera’s Gloria. The speech, while not something I agreed with across the board, did surprise me in that it has some good statements. Now, Ferrera and Barbie are getting criticism by feminists who believe the speech “oversimplifies” feminism. Ferrera says, in part,

“Assuming that everybody is on the same level of knowing and understanding the experience of womanhood is an oversimplification.”

She says that those who know feminism might find it oversimplified, but that not everyone is so. I do agree with her to the extent that a movie like Barbie cannot capture something in one speech. But it can inspire thoughts and interest, which I think is what the film does, overall. Additionally, Ferrera says the speech was a collaborative affair between her and director Greta Gerwig, and was shot multiple times to get it right. What is lost in this argument, all the way around and no matter who it comes from, is Barbie is here to entertain. Sure it can inspire us to think about something, but it’s primary should be to entertain, which it does do. pop culture news one hundred and nineteen

CBS will have, which I’m 99% we did share, a new Sherlock drama… but without Sherlock. That’s right, this will be a medical procedural that’s all about Dr. John Watson in what will pick up a year following the death of Sherlock Holmes. Only, even as he resumes his life as a doctor, Dr. Watson finds his former life isn’t “done” with him yet. The show, simply titled Watson will star Morris Chestnut and is from the former Elementary EP (Craig Sweeney), though the shows won’t be connected. Honestly, I don’t think I “love” this being a post Sherlock show, and would rather see it be more of a prequel about Watson prior to he and Sherlock’s crime solving. Still, I’ll very likely give it a chance.

Speaking of TV shows, Jay Hernandez is speaking out about this week’s finale of Magnum P.I. Cancelled again, this time presumably for good, after CBS first cancelled the show, and then NBC picked it up, he says he’s not happy with how the show “ending how it did” alluding to that they didn’t know they’d be shooting their finale episodes. I didn’t see the final season (yet), but it sounds like it leaves the characters in a happy place. The creator said that while they didn’t plan for this to be a series finale, it did work as one. So I’m just thankful for that and even if we don’t see these characters again (which I wouldn’t be opposed to), I am happy if they’re in a good place.

Now we must ask you the important question: which of these stories did you follow? Which ones captivated you (and we didn’t mention)? Comment all of the thoughts. Let’s meet in the comments.
