SOME OF THE READING SUPERPOWERS I’D LIKE AS A READER

When it comes to superpowers, I’ve never been one to dream up what I’d like to have or not have. I loved the original MCU phase but have fallen off that phase and am now in a “whatever” phase about the world. Today we have a question before us about superpowers, specifically what book superpowers we’d want. That isn’t something I ever think about, at least not as a superpower, but of course, there are a couple of things that would fit.

LIST | FIFTEEN FABULOUS FAIRYTALES FOR ‘TELL A FAIRYTALE DAY’

SOME OF THE READING SUPERPOWERS I’D LIKE AS A READER. What superpowers would you like to have when reading. #Reader #Readers #Reading #Bookworm #Bookish #Read #BookList #TopTen #TopTenList #TopTenTuesday Share on X

If I could have these talents every time I sat down to read, I’d be glad of it. But I also have to be honest, I’m okay with how and when I read. Do I read often these days? No. But I still add books to my shelf, still read about the upcoming popular novels and learn about the indie novels from authors I’d like, and I still read… just rarely. Part of this is because of things on social media, plus I don’t ever want reading to feel like, despite some social media chatter, something I have to do in order to be a cool person, so when I read I want it to be fun and enjoyable and something I’m doing because I want to. So while I would like to be able to be a different reader, these last three years are teaching me that I’m also okay not reading every moment.

This list is short because again, I cannot honestly think of many book superpowers. But it was still fun!

BOOK SUPERPOWERS

THE ABILITY TO READ FASTER

I never did understand readers who post an Instagram roundup with ten, twelve, thirteen or more novels for each month. I cannot even fathom that ability. It’s always a cool reader skill, but nothing I’ve ever had, unless we’re talking about back when I was a kid and read American Girl books. But also, don’t ask me to remember how many books I read back then; that’s too long ago because yes, I’m old.

THE ABILTY TO INSTANTLY RECALL CHARACTERS

I rarely, if ever, remember specifics about characters. I have fond memories of reading certain novels like Meant to Be Mine by Becky Wade, a novel that I did like while reading (the story and characters), but if you were to ask me to remember something specific about a character, well that I couldn’t do. Being able to remember personalities or something specific I love about a character would sure be helpful when curating lists or wanting to write something about favorite book characters!

THE ABILITY TO MATCH BOOK COVERS IN A SERIES

It’s minor but I like the books in my series to match and sometimes they switch the look.

THE ABILITY TO PICK THE RIGHT BOOKS

Through the years I think this is something I’ve learned to do relatively well. If I think a book looks fun, but I read about it (reviews, etc) and find out something that isn’t my cup of tea, well, I move on. No matter how cute something looks, it’s not always going to be something I’ll enjoy and that’s something that is worth learning.

THE ABILITY TO VISIT BOOK WORLDS

I saw this on another list, and it reminded me to add it. Green Gables? Wouldn’t that be charming. Pemberley? Swoon. The Irish countryside? I mean, the beauty! There’s countless worlds, though for me I think I’d always opt for realistic worlds. Fantasy may scare me.

What book superpowers do you wish you had? Do you have any of these? What’s your secret? Comment all of your thoughts below! Let’s chat.

Thank you for visiting; please do come again.

    1. Right? For some reason that’s a (minor) reader pet peeve of mine. I like my series or the editions I start to collect to have a pretty matching cohesiveness. ;)

    1. Oh, no! Not being able to read in the car is no fun. I think I have read in a car before and been okay, but I also find it distracting to try and read when there’s others in the car. :)

  1. I have number one, I read quite a bit. Part of it is because I sneak reading in all throughout the day, and TRY to get at least an hour before bedtime. Plus, I now listen to audiobooks when I walk, do chores, and drive to and from work. I also need the ability to recall characters and details from books, I seriously lack that one! Have a great week!

    1. I wish I loved audiobooks. I’ve listened to a few that were SO good and I did enjoy a couple, but I find myself “drifting” while listening because of the task I’m doing or writing or whatever. So then I have to rewind and focus, and it just feels like I “repeat” too much. But here and there I try one so who knows! Maybe they’ll grow on me. :)

      1. It is 100% about finding the right narrators! An excellent narrator will keep your attention and make it easier to follow the story. I don’t do well with suspense stories in audio format since they typically introduce a lot of characters at one time, and I don’t love dual-time on audio either. I used to think I hated audiobooks, but now I love them.

        1. That’s good to hear. :) I just tried one last week and I do enjoy it, it’s just more that I’m trying to work so I’m focusing on that and I “miss” the story then. Probably why I’d rather just listen to music or watch a show that I don’t “have” to pay attention to. I want to enjoy the books I read. But I plan to keep trying and hoping I find that one that just works. :)

    1. I would love if they all nicely would match! Sometimes the author or publisher changes things up after part of the series is already out in the world. It’s a reader pet peeve for sure. ;)
