RANKING THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES OF 2024: PART ONE
There are some things we write about and share that’s new content. Then there are some things we “recycle” each new season. One of these writeups we use year after year is to put together a ranking the Christmas movies of 2024 we see. Or at least the ones we’ve seen so far. This year there’s an entirely new batch of movies to watch, all of which may leave us with varying feelings on that emotion scale from loathing to adoration.

RANKING THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES OF 2024: PART ONE. Talking about *all* of the #ChristmasMovies I've seen (so far) and how I rank them. How would you rank the 2024 Christmas movies? #ChristmasMovie #Hallmark #LindsayLohan #ChadMichaelMurray… Share on XOf the titles I’ve seen in 2024 to this point, there is many a familiar face leading the cast. From teen stars of those gloriously silly 90s TV shows to experienced Christmas movie stars, there is sure to be many a star you enjoy. I’ve only seen about 15 or so (out of what a hundred new titles?). Still, since I don’t mind keeping lists smaller (as a reader, I find long lists overwhelming so I think that translates into the creator in me, too) and will again share this ‘rank the Christmas movies’ list from the least to most favorite – and as always, we want to know how you would rank the titles you’ve seen. We’ll also be back with a part two list as well.
RANK the CHRISTMAS MOVIES of 2024
From least to most favorite
A ‘90S CHRISTMAS
Cute and sweet, this one is all about traveling into the past and seeing where you were and where you’re at. Eva Bourne (from When Calls the Heart) features in this which is not her first leading lady role. TV-G is the rating (if it bothers you there are two characters, one more prominent, who date the same sex)

HOT FROSTY
Lacey Chabert stars in this about a widow who finds romance in an unexpected place. The concept of this is cute, but it’s just too silly and I don’t love the whole cast so while I wanted to enjoy this, I just didn’t. PG is the rating for some innuendo/sexual content (minor)

MEET ME NEXT CHRISTMAS
Cute, yes, but ultimately forgettable. The plot follows a woman who, while in a committed relationship, meets a handsome stranger on her way back home. They both feel a spark and decide to meet next Christmas if they are both looking for love. I like that the script doesn’t go exactly how one would assume (though we realize how its going to go about twenty or so minutes in) and I have always liked the Christmas movies I’ve seen Christina Millan feature in. PG or light PG-13 is the rating of this (there may be a minor innuendo or two).

A NOVEL NOEL
Brendan Penny plays a bookstore owner in this Hallmark Mystery title that leads him to meet a burnt out editor, played by Julie Gonzalo. The book angle was cute in this one, but I don’t think this is a favorite. TV-G is the rating (if it bothers you there is one character who dates the same sex)

CHRISTMAS UNDER THE LIGHTS
This is a Hallmark Mystery title which means it’s a bit more emotional and deals with the aftermath of loss. It’s still a charming film though and has a newer star Heather Hemmens in the lead role, an actress who’s work I do enjoy. TV-G is the rating for a film that has some deeper emotional fallout but not much else

CHRISTMAS at PLUMHILL MANOR
The only Lifetime movie I’ve seen (which one do I need to make time for?), this one is cute. It was one of the titles I thought I’d enjoy, and I did. The leads are pretty good, the film uses more “spice” (in still a very closed door way) and has period drama references (which we know earns points with me). There is STILL the usual final act drama, but since this is common to the genre, I deal. TV-PG is the rating

‘TWAS THE DATE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
The first one I watched of 2024, and it remains in a place higher up the list! I thought the banter between lesser leads Robert Buckley and Amy Groening was good fun despite the oft-repeated trope (faux dating). Plus, I do like Robert Buckley even if we don’t see him often. TV-G is the rating

A CAROL for TWO
This one has a kind of vintage-esque element by telling a story about a woman who tries to find a break on Broadway only to have to work as an music bar. It’s a unique kind of concept and is really sweet, too. TV-G is the rating

THREE WISER MEN and a BOY
A sequel to 2022’s fan favorite Three Men and a Boy, this one reunites the same cast and has a continuation story set five years later. This time the Brenner brothers must put together a school play with young kids. TV-G is the rating

THE CHRISTMAS QUEST
One that takes more of an adventurous angle (but still in a very Hallmark way because this is still a Christmas movie), this one has Lacey Chabert teaming with Hallmark favorite Kristoffer Polaha. TV-G is the rating

CHRISTMAS with the SINGHS
This one is really sweet (like so many on this list are) about a couple who find each other and each other on Christmas and a year later prepare to meet each other’s respective families the next year. TV-G is the rating

SANTA TELL ME
Highly anticipated this one reunites Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing in a romance about a woman searching for Mr. Right, who Santa tells her will be named Nick! Imagine her surprise when she meets three guys named Nick in a matter of hours. TV-G is the rating

THE MERRY GENTLEMEN
A Netflix movie, this one has Chad Michael Murray playing a small-town carpenter who finds friendship and possibly love, too. PG is the rating (there is about five scenes of shirtless men performing dances if this bothers you as well as some innuendo)

HOLIDAY TOUCHDOWN: A CHIEFS LOVE STORY
Tyler Hynes and Hunter King are adorable together in this cute little football themed romance. It’s very likely inspired by the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance although this one still writes its own story, which I think is neat. I put this one down lower than I would had it eliminated the whole obsession with a hat bit. Otherwise, this could easily be a top place favorite. TV-G is the rating

THE CHRISTMAS CHARADE
This one tries really hard to be cute… and mostly it is! It has some flaws (as I would ascribe to every title on this list), but I admire that it sets out to be different. Plus, while it also trips up the production of the movie, the mystery angle is cute and will remind you of something like Castle (ABC TV show). TV-G is the rating

FIVE GOLD RINGS
This one is also a more serious story about loss and going on a journey to try and return pieces of lost heirlooms to their rightful owner. The leading man is really good in this one, and is also a newer addition to Hallmark. I haven’t really seen anyone talk about this one, but I think it’s rather good, and the best I’ve seen from the Hallmark Mystery side of 2024. TV-G is the rating

OUR LITTLE SECRET
This one is a common film as far as the “feel,” but the story is unusual, and it eliminates the third act breakup drama and has Lindsay Lohan which is a plus even if just for nostalgia purposes (I used to repeat watch Freaky Friday and The Parent Trap). Needless to say, this film (which involves exes being forced to spend Christmas together when they discover they’re dating siblings!) is really very cute. Yet I also recognize that nostalgia is probably affecting me too. TV-14 is the rating for some innuendo and a character getting (unknowingly) high

HOLIDAY CRASHERS
This is the second one I saw and it’s held up. It’s undeniably darling and has a plot that I haven’t seen which is about two best friends who, in order to jazz up their boring lives by crashing parties. When I see something “new,” that always stays with me and earns all the bonus points. It’s a fun concept and also makes a wise choice to take its story to “one year later” at the end. Plus, I really like Lyndsy Fonseca. TV-G is the rating
