THE WEEKLY NEWS 189: FALL TV AND MORE AGATHA CHRISTIE
Friday and pop culture stories go together here as we spend the day looking back on what stories, within that subgenre, were busy making headlines this week. It’s always a tossup as to whether I find a lot or very few, so let’s see where this fine Friday takes us. the weekly news 189 pop culture news 189

Joining NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O’Donnell in the upcoming ABC spin off 9-1-1: Nashville (an extension of the original show 9-1-1), is Kimberley Williams-Paisley and LeAnn Rimes. Jessica Capshaw was also previously announced as a main star.
BBC and BritBox are co-producing another adaptation of Agatha Christie. This time it’s another version of Endless Night. According to its page on Goodreads, this novel, which doesn’t have Miss Marple (though ITV did produce a version with her) or Poirot, is about Michael Rogers, and a “fantasy” that stirs in him when he sees a place called Gipsy’s Acre. The plot reads as being about him planning to “build a house, find a girl and live happily ever after,” but shadows threaten that plan. The synopsis from Goodreads also says that “Christie finished Endless Night in six weeks, as opposed to the three-four months that most of her other novels took. Despite being in her seventies while writing it…”

According to Mammoth Screen, a production partner, Endless Night will be three parts; and is “a ghost story and a love story […] about obsession and the darkness that lurks in us all when we want too much.” Sarah Phelps’s will pen the production (her sixth such adaptation).
TV RECAP | ‘WILD CARDS’ SEASON TWO FINALE RECAP: WHO IS THE BADDIE?
News is “breaking” left and right about the renewal status of shows (May is typically a big month with fall schedule announcements). Rescue: HI-Surf (Fox) as well as spinoff shows FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted (CBS) all have cancel beside their names now. Update: NBC also cancelled several shows including Suits: LA (after one season); Night Court, Lopez vs. Lopez (both after three); Found and The Irrational (after two). What do we think!? This is a cancel heavy schedule now for NBC. Do they have much left? *goes to look* (Right, there is the Chicago trifecta and L&O universe, too.) I will say, seeing more from the Suits universe is cool, I think it had a purpose, and allows us a catchup with everyone we love. That series finale will air May 18th!
In more “breaking” TV news, Fox is going to try their hand at making an American version of Doc Martin with Best Medicine. Reports say Josh Charles (from The Good Wife) is in talks to star. The British show had Martin Clunes (its ten season run made fans happy) as “a gruff but loveable GP” who settles in a new small town after his city career as a surgeon ends. According to a Fox press release, this is said to be set in Boston before taking its illustrious-career-loss doc, Dr. Best, to a small East Coast fishing town. The show will be a “charmingly complicated one-hour comedy.” It will be making a network debut in the 2025-2026 season. Did you like Doc Martin?
