‘SUGARPLUMMED’: A REALLY CUTE MOVIE POKES FUN AT GENRE
Yet another in the line of Hallmark’s 2024 Hallmark movies, Sugarplummed is surprisingly cute in a different and unique way.
Sugarplummed (2024) Hallmark TV Film Review
Type-A is her personality and planning the most ideal Christmas seems simple for Emily (Maggie Lawson). She knows how to juggle more than one thing which she learns being a career woman and a mother. Still, the lives of her kids don’t seem to have time for their mother’s plans and her husband (Brandon Zuk) is more interested with impressing his boss than joining Emily’s plans.
Wishing for at least one final perfect family Christmas, Emily makes a wish. Her wish manifests in Sugarplum (Janel Parrish) the character from a favorite TV movie series…
TV FILM REVIEW | ‘THE SANTA CLASS’: A MOVIE THAT TEACHES HOW TO BE JOLLY!
‘SUGARPLUMMED’: A REALLY CUTE MOVIE POKES FUN AT GENRE. #MaggieLawson and #JanelParrish co-star in #Sugarplummed. #ChristmasMovie #ChristmasMovies Share on XThough the concept of someone (fictional) coming to life isn’t new, Sugarplummed is still one of the more unique 2024 titles. I love seeing Maggie Lawson, especially as a favorite (both in film’s like this and TV shows) and she plays this role well too. I’ve also recently discovered that I like Janel Parrish, an actress I wasn’t really familiar with until she started playing in roles here. in this, she gets to play a character she hadn’t previously, and it’s delightful.
This has a kind of Enchanted feeling and Parrish definitely has a sort of Giselle character persona. This one, like almost anything in this film, relies on family and tradition. I find the friendship far more interesting and the fact that the film relies on poking fun of itself (TV movies in general) quite fun. (There are also a handful of cameo-like appearances of familiar Hallmark faces.) I think it shows a sense of self awareness that’s entertaining and allows the viewer some fun moments of silly laughter. Something that we should always want in a Christmas movie.

Content: there is nothing to note outside of the usual TV-G rating. The film has the usual content which is virtually nothing worth mentioning.
