The Favorite Workplace Romance OTPs!

Everyone has their favorite trope. There’s the second chance romance or the Lizzie-Darcy scenario that is love to hate. One of mine is the trope favorite workplace romance. I never seem able to place my finger on “why” this is, but it doesn’t make it any less of a truth.

LIST | A Few of the Best TV Ships [2020 Edition]

As I sit here and attempt to dissect my reasons as to why, I think my off-the-top of my head answer is the “energy” of the trope. It seems to add a kind of unique element that other common tropes don’t have. Or maybe this is only in my imagination. Perhaps it’s seeing the couple in a private as well as work environment together. I don’t know. Either way, I like it.

Most of these will be from TV shows, but I cannot promise every one will be (in fact, they aren’t), but I did try to keep them mostly from TV.

Let’s see if we can find some of my favorites.

Favorite Workplace Romances

Listed from a-z

1: Chuck Bartowski and Sara

From: NBC’s Chuck

Why: Haven’t finished this show yet (I know, I’m way behind), but I like these two (mostly) in what I’ve seen so far. (Again, mostly.) Plus, the fact that their love story seems to end bittersweet-ly makes me nervous.

2: Kate Beckett and Rick Castle

From: ABC’s Castle

Why: Loved these two from the beginning. Not sure if the end is meant to be “real,” or fantasy, but I’m choosing the former. The latter is too depressing.

3: Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth

From: Fox’s Bones

Why: I mean, who doesn’t love these two? Plus, I love that this shows allows fans to explore them as a married couple.

4: Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn

 From: CBS’ Alias

Why: I binged this one five or so years ago, and loved it. In fact, I’d totally re-watch it at some point. Jennifer Garner plays a spy, and Michael Vartan her handler, Vaughn. Needless to say, this is a romance we want to see happen.

5: Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David

From: CBS’ NCIS

Why: Though Ziva and boss man, Gibbs have a strong connection that goes deep, it’s not of a romantic nature. Instead, Ziva’s heart is taken by another of her co-workers. Despite all of their ups and downs (literal bloody ones, too!), I think these two do have their happy end, even if (bummer for us) it happens off-screen. But perhaps, someday, we’ll see them return for a guest appearance.

6: Captain Thomas Gillan and Katherine Trevelyan

From: BBC’s The Crimson Field

Why: These two, I adore them together so very much. I feel like this short-lived British drama is also supremely underrated, and each time I mention it or a character from it in a list, I’m reminded I should give it the re-watch I never do. Of course, like anything, this one ends on a will-they note since it never had a second season.

7: Alec Hardison and Parker

From: TNT’s Leverage

Why: These two… are way too cute. Really, it’s more a strong friendship they have, but underneath it, there’s also something more. Alec is always able to help Parker with her anxiety, and he’s just so patient with her. While their work environment isn’t conventional (they are part of a kind of Robin Hood gang), they’re still good together.

8: Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon

From: CBS’s The Mentalist

Why: This is one OTP that does get a happy end, and let me tell you, they deserve it!

9: Lucy Kelson and George Wade

From: Two Weeks Notice

Why: These two are so cute, even if they are from a film vs the TV show. The hilarious antics are worth Hugh Grant as leading man, and of course, Sandra Bullock’s unparalleled comedic self makes anything better.

10: Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak

From: CW’s Arrow

Don’t ask me to say that I don’t love you…

Why: Not sure I’ll love how this love story ends (yes, I’ve read all the spoilers), but I do adore these two together. They’re one of my ultimate OTPs. I want so badly for them to have a happy end after all they go through.

11: Roy Rayder and Jamie Sawyer

From: Reckless

Why: Ok, so these two are stretching things a bit since they don’t work together, but they do meet because of work. This 2014 short-lived CBS show features the characters as competing lawyers, and the sparks are off the charts. I loved the scenes between these two so much, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love the Southern gentleman character that is Roy.

12: Tani Rey and Junior Raines

From: CBS’ Hawaii Five-o

Why: These two are adorable. I’d like to think this show could possibly (someday) get a revival even if its limited just to bring everyone back together, and offer more concrete endings for everyone.

13: Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt

From: CBS’ The Mentalist

Why: This is the romance perhaps we invest more into than Patrick and Teresa’s because we get to see them happy. Plus, who doesn’t think these two are adorable together?

14: Tony Stark and Pepper Potts

From: MCU’s Iron Man franchise

Why: Tony is sometimes trying, but he grows throughout this entire film franchise, and I love how he loves Pepper. That’s enough for me.

    1. Alias is so good! Especially if you like edge-of-your-seat TV. Let me know if you see it/like it – and yay for another ‘Mentalist’ fan. One of my all-time favorites. :)

PS: I think Alias is on Prime if you have that. :)

  1. THANK YOU for including Parker & Hardison… my family and I only started binge-watching Leverage for the first time this year and LOVED it, so I was super excited to see them on this list; Nathan & Sophie are also a pairing I really enjoyed, but there’s just something extra special about Parker and Hardison!! (If I had to pick a #1 favourite character from that show though, it would definitely be Eliot Spencer). Other OTPs from this list I particularly love are both Mentalist couples and Booth & Bones.

    1. Aww! How fun. We watched that a few years ago and thought it was too cute. Plus, who doesn’t love those two?? Parker is adorable on her own, but she and Hardison together? They’re perfect. Yes. I love Eliot too. Wish we’d have even more of a story for him – perhaps in the revival we will! (High five) for more shared OTPs. :)

  2. We’re rewatching Chuck right now, and it’s interesting to see how that relationship plays out, knowing how it ends (kind of, I don’t remember everything about this show!). We’re also watching The Mentalist, and I think I’m more invested in the Lisbon/Jane relationship than the Rigsby/Van Pelt one!

    1. I like the Lisbon/Jane relationship, too. A lot. It’s just nice to see one that actually GETS to unfold on screen in terms of the couple being together. :) “Chuck” is one I’m still in progress watching and while I like it, I’m also in no real hurry to finish it because of the end. Hoping it’s better than how I read it is. :)
