I say this every week, but literally, this week we are scraping the BOTTOM. There’s been a great lack of stories, or at least ones I would take time to include or write a full on paragraph about. This is probably the slimmest week (unless tomorrow there is something major breaking since I’m writing this ahead of time) to date. And we all know, there’s been some bad weeks. Let’s see what we did find.

POP CULTURE NEWS SEVENTY FIVE

KRISTEN BELL FINDS NEW ROLE

Following her partnership and role with Netflix in THE WOMAN IN THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE GIRL IN THE WINDOW, Bell will lead the cast in a new comedy. Her character’s description is an “irreverent, outspoken, agnostic woman” who forms quite the unexpected friendship with an equally “unconventional rabbi.” What do you think? Who will play the rabbi? Who should play the rabbi??

SELENA GOMEZ IS NO WILD CHILD, BUT…

I mean to include this when it was the headline a couple of weeks ago, then forgot (twice now) to use it. Turns out, I was subconsciously saving it for a week like this. (I’m telling you guys, there’s just nothing to talk about or “report” on.) Getting her start in the Disney channel series The Wizards of Waverley Place, Gomez recently shared that according to Disney, there were rules she had to follow; even while in promotion for the show. She says, in part:

“I wasn’t a wild child by any means, but I was on Disney, so I had to make sure not to say ‘What the hell?’ in front of anyone. It’s stuff that I was also putting on myself to be the best role model I could be. Now I think being the best role model is being honest, even with the ugly and complicated parts of yourself.”

I’m not saying she didn’t perhaps feel stifled or limited, but honestly the idea that she’s complaining she couldn’t use “hell” as some kind of exclamation is weird to me. After saying she was (or is) “haunted” by being associated with her Disney role, she also says “And by the way, I’m beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way.” Seems a conflicting thought, even though she does say releasing her documentary does help. Also of all the things any Disney star could speak on or want Disney to improve, why is it not using “hell” the tipping point?

LAST THINGS

E! News will release all three of their rom-coms this summer, though none have specifics dates yet. The films are titled  Arranged Love, Ms. Match and Platonic.

Former NBC star of Great News (the hilarious two season comedy) Briga Heelan will guest star in the breakout hit So Help Me Todd. This will reunite Heelan and titular Skylar Astin, who formerly starred in the TBS show Ground Floor. The episode will air March 30.

In an upcoming episode of Blue Bloods, the patriarch of the Reagan family, played by Tom Selleck, will have a little Magnum P.I. reunion. Famous for his role as Thomas Magnum in the 70s, Selleck’s friend on the show was played by Larry Manetti is set to be a guest star in the CBS drama, Blue Bloods. Did you watch the original Magnum P.I.?

I watched the much buzzed about ABC drama The Company You Keep. It has promise. We also have a review.

In streaming news, if you’ve wanted to see Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, hold off until March 14th. It’s set to drop on Amazon Prime.

Paris Hilton reveals a lot of things this past week in regards to her surrogate pregnancy and why she doesn’t want to carry a child (fear of pregnancy and trauma). Honestly it makes me sad to see how some of these celebrities treat surrogacy. She may have fear, however, culture hasn’t been kind to women about motherhood and to children about their worth. Hilton is furthering that narrative.

Hallmark renewed their freshman drama The Way Home for a second season just ahead of its first season finale.

Finally, speaking of Hallmark, Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp will reunite, after starring in the Christmas flick, The Christmas Waltz, in a new Hallmark mystery film. The movie is filming and is titled The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango. It’s set to debut later this year according to ET and will take place in the “competitive world of ballroom dance,” while also being based on a story and characters co-developed by Kemp.
