BOOK TITLES THAT NEED ONLY ONE WORD

Sometimes the few words, the better. This is certainly true for these one word book titles. This is also a lesson I could learn from. Especially since I tend to be too wordy or chatty in some publications. Although, believe it or not, I used to be far worse than I am now, so I guess I should just be glad to improve, right?

Most books tend to use multiple words, strung together to make a fun title. One example being Jennifer L. Smith’s The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Despite this, and no matter how fun it is, sometimes one word is all you need. Sometimes, even that single word has a kind of “power” that’s ideal for the story or novel. All can work together to create something that makes us stop and wonder, what is that about?

Let’s meet some of these fictional forces.

BOOKS THAT NEED ONLY ONE WORD: ONE WORD BOOK TITLES

EMMA and PERSUASION, JANE AUSTEN

Including a Jane Austen novel or two is necessary, amiright? Emma Goodreads • Persuasion Goodreads

DISTORTION, TERRI BLACKSTOCK

Read this one years ago through a review program that I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist anymore, so… yeah. I cannot really remember details but I think I did enjoy the book. Goodreads

FAWKES, NADINE BRANDES

Pretty sure I read this one a long time ago. But asking me to remember specifics is probably stretching it. Still, my vague memory suggests this is a solid title that matches the story. Goodreads

WARCROSS and WILDCARD, MARIE LU

Read this duo so long ago I cannot remember the details. I do know I was surprised that I enjoyed them given that virtual reality and video games isn’t really my thing. They’re also the only books I’ve read by Marie to this day. Warcross Goodreads • Wildcard Goodreads

REMEMBRANCE, VENGEANCE and TIMELESS, MICHELLE MADOW

Book one is loosely inspired by Taylor Swift lyrics and as that was a time when I was all about writing (more than what I do now) + Swift’s smash hit ‘Love Story,’ of course I read this one. It was also fun to learn about Michelle’s story and be a kind of inspiration for someone who wanted to write. Shop the Transcend Time Saga on Goodreads

UNRIVALED, SIRI MITCHELL

This is one of those books I was stoked to read. The cover was stunning, and I was curious. Sadly it didn’t enchanted me in the ways I would anticipate. Goodreads

SUBMERGED, DANI PETTREY

Really this entire series by Dani would fit. It follows a group of siblings who live in Alaska and is all about some of the dangerous and mysterious situations they get into. Shop the Alaskan Courage series on Goodreads

WINDFALL, JENNIFER E. SMITH

This one was quite fun and cute, and I think the first novel I read by Jennifer. Goodreads

SUNKISSED, KASIE WEST

Anyone who visits here often knows I’m a big Kasie West fan. That’s enough said about this edition. Goodreads

ACCOMPLISHED, AMANDA QUAN

Inspired by Jane Austen’s novels, this tells the story of Georgiana Darcy set in the world of young adult fiction. Goodreads

Would you read any of these? Have you read any of these? Do any make an appearance on your list? Comment all the things below. Let’s talk.

    1. So glad to know this, Nish! I love the story so that’s one I should try to read someday. And I feel like it could be a classic novel I do enjoy. :)

    1. I did enjoy the Warcross books. They aren’t “stuck” in my mind as the best ever reads, but given I didn’t expect to like them, it was fun to enjoy them. :)

    1. It’s always fun to find books that fit the topic and like you, I too am sometimes surprised by how many I own that fit the topic. :) Thanks so much for visiting, Cindy – and yay for both picking Submerged. It’s a good one, too.

    1. Anytime I go back into the archives and edit reviews (which I need to do!), I’m in awe of how many words I used. ;) It kind of makes me “depressed” and feel better both because gosh I wrote a lot of words before, but I also feel as though I am changing. At least some. ;)

  1. I’ve read Fawkes of these and I really enjoyed that one, I also enjoyed her other book Romanov, I hope Nadine Brandes does more fantasy stories based on historical events because I found both of them really enjoyable.

    1. I *think* I’ve read them both, too, Jo. But I cannot remember. I do know I find the Anastasia legend fun and interesting as a story, so I was super excited about that book. :)

    1. I was quite surprised by how much I did enjoy Marie’s books because they really aren’t “my” genre. But they’re fun!! And I agree. Windfall looks so fun. I’m hoping it is. :)
