HALLMARK’S ‘THE WAY HOME’ RETURNS FOR SECOND SEASON: WHAT WE KNOW

Last year, Hallmark made fans quite giddy with the debut of their new scripted show The Way Home. Ten episodes was the entirety of the first season since Hallmark usually runs shorter seasons for any of their TV shows. Fans loved the cast, and the main male character, and were generally excited about the show. On Sunday January 21st the show will return, and so we’re looking at what we know about The Way Home season two.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show or you were going to watch it, but didn’t make time, here’s what you’d find. The show features Andie MacDowell as the matriarch of a family who doesn’t get along. When her daughter Kat, played by Supergirl’s Chyler Leigh, returns home with her own teenage daughter, they find old wounds and new revelations collide. This all gets more mysterious when Alice learns she can visit the past, back when her mother Kat was a teenager. What she learns challenges the broken family she knows in the present. what we know about the way home season two

The show also stars Jefferson Brown, Sadie LaFlamme-Snow and playing a character fans love, Evan Williams. WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ‘THE WAY HOME’ SEASON TWO

beware, there will be season one spoilers

BEGIN AGAIN

According to the press release for the first episode of season two, which is ‘The Space Between,’ “The passing of Port Haven’s oldest resident drudges up bad memories for Kat and Del.” It says that what this resident leaves behind “sparks” a whole new mystery.

BOUNDERIES

Back at the end of season one, star and executive producer, Chyler Leigh did an interview about the season and the kiss that left fans thrilled. In that same interview, Leigh says that during the filming of the scene, she was told “‘Hey, we’re pushing the boundaries on this show, so when you kiss, get it.’” She goes on to say that while most fans feel “safer” (knowing the show environment) watching a show on Hallmark, they’re “most excited about was the opportunity we have to really take risks,” and that this kiss is just one of the ways they are doing that which is to also bring in a younger, new audience, too. What boundaries do you think the cast and writers are pushing this second season?

ELLIOT

Despite his turning Kat down in the end of season one, it would appear that Elliot, based on images, will be back in season two. Also in the press release is a line suggesting he traveled, saying he “returns from his travels abroad but the status of his relationships with Kat and Alice are influx.” The logline makes mention of him saying that Kat “grapples with Jacob’s mystery in the wake of losing Elliot.”

Also, we’ll just leave these season two images of Elliot here for those who adore him. what we know about the way home season two

JACOB

Speaking of Jacob, based on the trailer, and episode logline, it would seem that Jacob, Kat’s little brother, will again remain at the center of the show. In the promo, Kat excitedly tells her mother that she thinks she knows what happened to Jacob.

KAT

In a season one finale Q&A, Chyler Leigh, who plays Kat, says that Elliot leaving and breaking off any dating potential is perhaps good for Kat to “have to accept the fact that it really isn’t about her.” She mentions that Kat has a sense of “self-centered” attitude, and that when Kat decides she wants Elliot, he tells her no, essentially, because “I’ve been here all along.” Leigh doesn’t confirm that they’ll eventually get together, but when asked if their characters would remain friends, she answers that she doesn’t know and “Can you ever really truly be friends with your ex?”

UPDATES ON EPISODE TWO

After the episode one cliffhanger, one logline for episode two reads as follows:

Del considers the future of Landry Farm in the present, Kat searches for answers through the past, and Alice tries to make peace with Elliot in both.
