EIGHTEEN MOVIES TO KEEP YOUR LOVE OF PARIS STRONG
It’s an Olympic year, so naturally, that tends to influence pop culture. Given that America is collectively watching the games (though to be honest, I’ve realized I haven’t seen a single event!), it’s probably fair to say, some of us are kind of obsessed with 2024’s host city, Paris, just now. This made me think, what movies set in France, maybe most in Paris, do we love? This inspires our list today.

MOVIES SET in FRANCE
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS
A classic with Gene Kelly, this isn’t one I’ve seen, but promises a great musical adventure through Paris.
Stream, at publication, with MGM
THE ARISTOCATS
A classic Disney film, this is one I saw often as a kid. I rewatched it quite a long time ago just for nostalgia’s sake and still found the adventurous journey of a cat family cute.
Stream, at publication, with Disney+
BALLERINA
A sweet animated flick, I saw this one (or part of it?) years ago and it’s charming.
Stream, at publication, on places like Freevee, Pluto, Roku or Tubi movies set in france
CHARADE
Considered a classic, this mystery flick (that does have a few twists) pairs up Carey Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
Stream, at publication, with Prime or Tubi
CHOCOLAT
This one isn’t set in Paris, but rather a small-town French town, and it’s beautiful. From the emotions to the acting and relationships, it’s gorgeous. It’s also a period film that has a message culturally relevant even in these modern times.
Stream, at publication, on Paramount, Prime and MGM
THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO
Based on the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas, the 2002 version follows James Caviezel’s Edmund Dantes as he escapes from a wrongful imprisonment (after ten plus years) and inserts himself into the French nobility upon his escape.
Purchase, at publication, on places like Apple or Amazon movies set in france
DADDY LONG LEGS
Considered a classic, this one isn’t set (from what I see) in France, but follows the plight of a French orphan who gets a benefactor. Years later, despite an age gap, the pair fall in love. The film also is inspired by the novel by Jean Webster.
Purchase, at publication, on places like Apple or Amazon
FUNNY FACE
Audrey Hepburn features in this film about a woman discovered by a fashion photographer. During the film, she gets a photo shoot that takes her to Paris. I don’t remember all the details of this film, but know I saw it years ago.
Purchase digitally on places like Amazon or Apple TV
THE GREAT RACE
Something seems to tell me that I did see this film years ago, but remembering specifics is something I cannot do. Natalie Woods is the female lead in a story about a race from New York to Paris.
Stream, at publication, on places like Tubi
HUGO
Follows the adventures of a boy whose job it is to maintain the clocks at a train station.
MURDER MYSTERY 2
Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler returned in this mystery sequel about a married couple who get involved in solving a crime.
Stream, at publication, on Netflix movies set in france
MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS
There are two adaptations of this, one from 2022 and one from 1992. I’ve seen both, but the 2022 title is the one I best remember. Angela Lansbury stars in the 90s adaptation while Lesley Manville plays Mrs. Harris in the newer production, which is based on a novel. Alba Baptista also co-stars.
Stream, at publication, with Starz
A PARIS PROPOSAL
Alexa PenaVega stars in this Hallmark romance as Anna, a woman who falls for a colleague during a trip to the magical city of Paris.
Stream, at publication, on Hallmark Movies Now, Peacock or Prime
PASSPORT to PARIS
This is a silly film, but also iconic for Millennial viewers, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen star in this film about sisters who travel to Paris. The film is a kind of nostalgic title.
Purchase, at publication, on places like Amazon
PARIS WHEN IT SIZZLES
Another classic film, this one follows a screenwriter (William Holden) who struggles with alcohol and is on a tight deadline to finish a script. This inspires him to hire a woman (Audrey Hepburn) to assist him with the writing and typing.
Stream, at publication, on places like Pluto TV
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
A classic musical, this 2004 remake features an impressive cast including Minnie Driver, Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, and Patrick Wilson.
Purchase, at publication, on places like Apple or Amazon movies set in france
SAVORING PARIS
A Hallmark romance, Bethany Joy Lenz stars in this as a woman who travels to Paris to, in part, reinvent her life. It’s actually one I thoroughly enjoyed in the genre of TV films.

Set, in part, in France, this one is set during the French revolution and follows an English man who masters disguises and skills to rescue prominent French nobility from the guillotine.

A classic inspired by the novel of the same name, this follows a group of skilled swordsman who are once the King’s most trusted bodyguards only for their reputation to be called into question by a corrupt Cardinal.
